MAKING GREEN BEAN PURÉE FOR MY BABY

My daughter really liked the green beans she had from the Gerber’s tasters my mother in law got her, so I was really interested to see if she would like the homemade one as well since it looked a lot different, and she LOVED it! Will definitely be making this more because it’s for sure her favorite of the greens, plus this one is so easy to make.

How I made it:

1. Get some fresh green beans

3. Chop the ends of of your green beans if they do not already come like this

2. Add water to a pot (enough to cover your green beans) and bring to a boil

3. Add your green beans to the boiling water and cover. Let them boil until soft (I did around ten minutes)

4. Once your green beans reach a softer consistency, strain

5. Add the green beans and your liquid of choice (breastmilk, formula, or water) to the blender

6. Blend!

7. Serve or store

... Read moreFinding the perfect first foods for your little one can feel like a big adventure, right? When I started making my baby's purees, I wanted fresh, healthy options that were also super easy to prepare. Green beans quickly became a favorite in our house, especially because they're so mild and packed with goodness! You might be wondering, why green beans? Well, they're a fantastic first vegetable for babies! They're gentle on tiny tummies, rich in vitamins K, C, and A, and full of fiber to help keep things moving smoothly. Plus, making homemade green bean puree means you know exactly what's going into your baby's bowl – no hidden sugars, salts, or preservatives. It's so empowering to make healthy food for your little one right in your own kitchen. Usually, pediatricians recommend introducing solids around 4-6 months, when your baby shows signs of readiness like good head control and interest in food. When I first started, I aimed for a really smooth, almost liquid consistency for the green bean puree, just like the 'puree baby smooth' many of us look for. As your baby grows and gets more comfortable with solids, you can gradually leave it a little chunkier to encourage chewing practice. Choosing your ingredients is key. I often pick up fresh green beans, like the Marketside brand I showed, because they're vibrant and crisp. If fresh isn't available, frozen green beans work great too – just make sure they're plain, without added salt. For cooking, while the original recipe uses boiling, some moms prefer steaming green beans for baby as it helps retain more nutrients. Either way, make sure they're fork-tender before blending. And speaking of blending, a good blender, like my trusty Magic Bullet, makes achieving that perfect smooth puree a breeze! Don't forget your liquid of choice – breastmilk, formula, or water – to get the right consistency. One of my favorite tips for homemade baby food is batch cooking! Once you've made a big pot of green bean puree, you can store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. For longer storage, I love freezing it in ice cube trays. Once frozen, pop the cubes into a freezer-safe bag, and they'll last for up to 3 months. This makes meal prep so much easier – just grab a cube, thaw, and serve! You can serve green bean puree on its own or mix it with other purees like sweet potato or apple for a new flavor combination. It's all about exploring new tastes with your little one. Making your own baby food like this green bean puree recipe is a rewarding experience. It might seem daunting at first, but trust me, it gets easier with practice, and seeing your baby enjoy something you made with love is truly special. Happy pureeing!
