MY 12-MONTH-OLD’s CURRENT FAVORITE HEALTHY SNACKS

My daughter used to eat pretty much anything I gave her but nowadays she’s a little more picky so I figured I would share some of her current favorite snacks!!

I work partly from home and partly out and about, and I take her with me everywhere so it was definitely necessary for me to keep lots of snacks on hand that I could easily take with me. When we are at home she usually just eats fresh fruits and veggies as snacks but these ones are great to take out with us.

I basically went to the store and scanned every snack from our favorite organic brands with my Yuka app and these were the best ingredient clean snacks!

I used to give her organic puffs all the time which she absolutely loved, but I went back and scanned them and the rating was poor so I scanned all the other organic brands and they were all poor too! I have no idea what the deal is with the puffs, the snackers had a good rating so we will definitely just stick with those because it’s basically the same thing.

When I'm hunting for new snacks, my top priority is always the ingredient list. I look for whole, recognizable foods, and I try to steer clear of excessive added sugars, artificial colors, or preservatives. It’s surprising how many seemingly 'healthy' toddler snacks are packed with sugar! Finding brands that focus on 'clean ingredients' gives me so much peace of mind. For instance, I've had great success with organic fruit and veggie bars. These are fantastic because they often contain a blend of ingredients like apples, spinach, strawberries, and beets, offering a nutrient boost that might otherwise be tricky to get into a picky eater. They are individually wrapped, making them perfect for tossing into a diaper bag or stroller. Another category I rely on heavily includes baked grain snacks and teething wafers. My little one absolutely loves the texture, and it’s a bonus that they help with self-feeding skills and sometimes even teething discomfort. I look for options that are gluten-free, like some of the organic baked grain snackers, and those made with simple ingredients such as pumpkin, carrot, and spinach. These dissolve easily in the mouth, which is crucial for younger toddlers. Beyond branded products, don’t forget simple, low-sugar options like plain rice cakes or whole-grain crackers that can be easily paired with a small amount of fruit puree or mashed avocado if you're at home. For even more variety in your snack cupboard, consider things like freeze-dried fruit. These are less messy than fresh fruit for travel and often retain a good amount of their nutritional value. Just be sure to check that there’s no added sugar. Small, unsweetened fruit pouches are another convenient option, offering a quick burst of fruit and sometimes veggies. Here are a few extra tips I've picked up along the way: Always Read the Label: Don't just trust the front-of-package marketing. Dive into the ingredient list and nutritional information. Look for snacks with short ingredient lists and minimal added sugars. Portion Control: Even healthy snacks should be given in appropriate portions to avoid spoiling mealtime appetites.
