Ramen Mason Jar Recipe | Easy Meal Prep
An easy way to have better prepackaged ramen at work or at home, prepped ahead of time! This recipe uses a conventional ramen packet, but you can use a mix of your own ingredients, seasonings, and noodles. This allows me to make multiple prepackaged meals with different veggies for toppings.
Ingredients:
• mason jar + lid
• packet of ramen + seasoning packet
• shredded carrots
• shredded chicken
• a towel (for holding the hot mason jar)
• (optional) your favorite veggies
Directions:
1. In a clean mason jar, add in ramen seasoning packet.
2. On top, layer with shredded chicken and shredded carrots. Make sure the carrots are thin strips, if not they will not cook fully.
3. Divide the pack of ramen noodles into thirds and place inside Mason jar on top of other ingredients.
4. When ready to eat, fill the mason jar with very hot/boiling water until the noodles are covered (I used water from a coffee maker).
5. Using a towel to hold the container (the jar will be very hot), close the lid and let sit for 5 minutes.
6. Pour into a bowl or eat out of the mason jar with chopsticks or a long spork. Enjoy!
Additional notes: WARNING, the glass jar will be hot when filled with hot water. Bring a towel to hold the container.
Alternatively, use a mix of seasonings and sauces with a bouillon cube instead of the included spice packet.

Craving a warm, satisfying lunch without the hassle? My mason jar ramen recipe is an absolute game-changer for meal prep! I used to think instant ramen was just a quick fix, but with a few simple additions and the magic of a mason jar, it transforms into a gourmet-level, wholesome meal that's perfect for busy workdays or cozy evenings at home. Level Up Your Ramen: My Favorite Topping Combinations One of the best things about meal prepping ramen in a jar is the endless customization. While the original recipe highlights delicious shredded chicken and shredded carrots (which are always a hit!), I love experimenting with different flavors and textures to keep things exciting. Here are some of my personal go-to combinations that turn a simple ramen packet into something extraordinary: Protein Power-Ups: Beyond chicken, try thinly sliced cooked tofu, pre-cooked shrimp, or even some leftover pulled pork. A soft-boiled egg (added just before eating) is also a fantastic addition for a creamy yolk and extra protein boost. For a vegetarian option, edamame beans or chickpeas work wonderfully. Vibrant Veggies Galore: Don't stop at carrots! I often add thinly sliced mushrooms, baby spinach (it wilts beautifully when hot water is added!), corn kernels, or even thinly sliced bell peppers. Remember, the thinner you slice them, the better they'll cook. You can also get creative with finely chopped broccoli florets or snap peas for extra crunch and nutrients. Flavor Boosters & Sauces: This is where you can really make it your own! A dash of sriracha for spice, a drizzle of sesame oil for nutty depth, or a splash of lime juice for brightness can elevate the whole dish. I also love adding a tiny bit of ginger paste or minced garlic at the bottom with the seasoning packet for an aromatic kick. Sometimes, I swap the ramen seasoning for a bouillon cube and my own blend of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a pinch of sugar for a homemade broth base. Noodle Know-How: Beyond Instant Ramen While instant ramen noodles are super convenient, you're not limited to them! For those looking to try something different, here are a few other noodle varieties that work well for jar meal prep: Rice Vermicelli: These thin rice noodles cook almost instantly with hot water, making them a perfect candidate for a jar meal. They're light and absorb flavors beautifully. Thin Soba or Udon: If you prefer a heartier noodle, look for thinner varieties of soba (buckwheat) or udon noodles. Some can be added dry, similar to instant ramen, while others might benefit from a quick pre-boil before adding to your jar. Always check the package instructions! Choosing Your Perfect Meal Prep Container While mason jars are fantastic for their heat retention and aesthetic appeal (plus, you can see all those lovely layers!), you have options when it comes to containers. For instance, some people prefer BPA-free plastic containers with separate compartments, which can be useful if you want to keep some ingredients completely dry until just before eating. However, I personally stick to glass mason jars because they don't retain odors or stains, and they're microwave-safe if you ever need to reheat. Always ensure your container has a tight-fitting lid to prevent leaks during transport – nobody wants a ramen-scented bag! Pro Tips for Meal Prep Success To ensure your mason jar ramen is always perfect, here are a few extra tips I've picked up: Layering is Key: Always put your seasoning packet (or bouillon and sauces) at the very bottom. Then add harder, denser vegetables (like your shredded carrots), followed by proteins (like shredded chicken), softer vegetables, and finally, the noodles on top. This prevents the noodles from getting soggy and ensures everything cooks evenly. Don't Overfill: Leave enough space for the hot water to fully submerge the noodles and other ingredients. Water Temperature Matters: Using truly boiling water is crucial for cooking the noodles and softening the vegetables properly. If your office only has a hot water dispenser, make sure it's hot enough! Towel Trick: As the original recipe warns, glass gets HOT! Always have a towel or a koozie handy to hold your jar once filled with hot water. Experiment with different ingredients and find your perfect RAMEN Mason Jar Prep combination. It's a simple way to bring a little joy and a lot of flavor to your lunch!
