How to “Boil” Eggs in the Air Fryer | Food Hack

*This recipe has been updated**

Ingredients:

• Egg(s)

• Air fryer

• Ice water in a bowl

Directions:

1. Place egg(s) into air fryer. Air fry at 300°F. I fried this egg for 13 minutes and they were fully cooked. You can cook them for less time for a runnier yolk.

2. One done, use tongs to place egg in ice water. Let sit until cool. Peel and enjoy!

Additional notes: I recently updated this recipe (my previous recipe was too high of a temperature, which I believe is the reason why the eggs were difficult to peel!)

When I first started experimenting with 'HOW TO AIR FRY BOILED EGGS', I had so many frustrating peeling disasters. That's why I updated my recipe to perfect the temperature and most importantly, the cooling step. The secret truly lies in letting them cool completely in ice water. This isn't just about making them safe to handle; it's a critical step for easy peeling. When you take the hot eggs directly from the air fryer (after cooking at around 300°F for about 13 minutes, depending on your desired doneness), plunging them into an ice bath creates a thermal shock. This shock causes the egg white to contract rapidly, separating it from the shell membrane. Without this step, even if cooked perfectly, you'll often find pieces of egg white stubbornly clinging to the shell, making peeling a nightmare (I've definitely been there!). I used to wonder if the high heat was the problem, but it was really the cooling process that needed refining. Just a few minutes, usually 10-15, in the ice water and they're ready to peel like a dream. Beyond the easy peel, the air fryer gives you amazing control over your yolks. If you prefer a runnier yolk, like a soft-boiled egg, you can reduce the cooking time slightly – maybe try 10-11 minutes at 300°F. For a perfectly jammy, medium-boiled texture, 12 minutes is often ideal. And for a fully firm, hard-boiled egg that’s still creamy, 13-14 minutes usually does the trick for me. Every air fryer is a little different, so I always recommend checking your first batch to find your sweet spot. Also, using room temperature eggs can sometimes give more consistent results, but I've had success straight from the fridge too. Always make sure your eggs aren't packed too tightly in the air fryer basket to allow for even cooking. What I love most about this method is how hands-off it is compared to stovetop boiling. No waiting for water to boil, no worrying about cracked shells. Just pop them in, set the timer, and prepare your ice bath! Once they're peeled, the possibilities are endless. I love slicing mine in half and adding a dash of soy sauce and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for a quick, savory snack, just like you see in some of my pictures. They're also fantastic for egg salads, topping ramen, or just a simple protein boost with your breakfast. Give this air fryer egg hack a try; it's truly changed my breakfast routine for the better!
