why i deleted instagram…
let’s be real. it’s nice to be able to effortlessly keep up with people you don’t see all the time. however, instagram is SO toxic.
instagram is an app used primarily to show yourself looking your absolute best in a highly edited photo of yourself- which sets unrealistic beauty standards. it’s also used to post when you are doing something crazy exciting or expensive. i found myself comparing my looks and daily lifestyle to people i KNEW and liked. convincing myself i needed to post something better.
instagram from my perspective was all about likes and comments as well. the more of these the better! the more likes the prettier you are. the more comments the more friends you have. when in reality it’s all fake and doesn’t matter!!!
it was hard to find real and relatable content on instagram. no one posted what life was like behind the scenes of their “perfect” photo. it just never felt real and personal which really turned me away.
since i have deleted instagram, i have gained self confidence by not having that type of social media. i also am a more private person and don’t want to romanticize my life! i have never looked back and don’t regret my decision at all. if i want to get in contact with someone, i text or call them. i have real conversations verses seeing one “perfect” picture online. i also find it freeing to not see the beauty standards i “should” meet as a young woman that are pushed on young women through apps like instagram!
