what i put into my body🦋✨

- during my darkest moments of depression, i become so sensitive to the world around me. during these moments i am mindful to refrain from watching horror movies, sad movies/shows, and don’t listen to melancholic music. instead, i watch shows that make me laugh, cry tears of joy, listen to upbeat dance/sing-a-long music, etc! i also become more mindful of what i physically consume. for me, this means less caffeine, less sugar, and less snacks. i instead consume extra water, and prioritize eating whole meals.

who i surround myself with💞🧸

- in the dark and isolating moments of depression, i assess who i am around and how they make me feel. i often times only spend time with or talk to my husband, my therapist, and my cat! i am conscious about prioritizing to steer clear from anyone who may plummet my already very low social battery, and anyone (especially relatives) that might say or trigger me to feel worse in some way (intentional or not).

daily rituals🧚🐱

- i try to really prioritize self care (showering, brushing my teeth, etc) while removing any objects that might trigger me. i try to really FEEL the sensations and how this time with myself makes me feel. sometimes just taking these steps of self love can encourage a boost in energy to perform other daily tasks (laundry, cleaning, work related things). i also prioritize taking my psych meds. i know it can feel like a chore, but the reality is that it isn’t. sometimes i have to have a reality check with myself to encourage proactive positive behavior.

how i accept my depression/what i tell myself❤️

- it’s okay to bed rot. it’s okay to isolate. but when you reach a low and scary point of depression, those “safe” things can become dangerous. i tell myself that i love myself. i welcome the depression and let it know im in control. i tell a trusted loved one how i feel and how they can help me. it can definitely feel embarrassing, but at the end of the day its powerful to own up and ask for help! you are in control of your life! the feeling of depression may not be wanted, and sometimes you have to tell it to f*ck off.

there are resources readily available to anyone currently struggling with this! people care about and love YOU even if you’re not sure that you love yourself. this world was meant for you. ❤️ i love you
