I really would love to pursue content creation full
Time but I know you need a niche. When you’re not on the road do you do other stuff? I do go to the gym and read and cook a lot so I have other content I could make I just steer towards travel because that’s what I want to do full time. I’d like to make about $2k a month eventually but I’m not sure how to grow my following. My followers from lemon8 haven’t gone to my Tik tok either so I’m only at like 70 there :(
... Read moreHey fellow aspiring travel creators! I hear your call for 'Seeking Advice From other travel creators' loud and clear, and I've been in your shoes. It's incredibly challenging yet rewarding to chase that dream of going full-time and hitting those income goals like $2k a month. You mentioned having other interests like the gym, reading, and cooking – don't see those as distractions from travel, but as potential superpowers! While a core niche is crucial, your content doesn't have to be only about the destination. Think about integrating your other passions into your travel narrative. Are you a fitness enthusiast who finds unique ways to stay active while backpacking? Do you explore local cuisine and cooking classes wherever you go? Or perhaps you share travel memoirs and books that inspire your journeys? This 'lifestyle travel' approach can significantly broaden your audience appeal, offer more consistent content even when you're not on the road, and truly differentiate your voice in a crowded space. It shows your audience a more authentic, well-rounded personality, fostering deeper connections.
One of the biggest hurdles is growing that following and making your content discoverable. You mentioned your Lemon8 followers aren't translating to TikTok, which is a really common challenge. The key here isn't just cross-posting, but *cross-promoting strategically*. On Lemon8, don't just link to your TikTok; give your audience a compelling, platform-specific reason to jump over. For example, 'Want to see a quick 60-second video tour of this hidden gem? Head to my TikTok – link in bio!' or 'I'm sharing my top 3 travel hacks for budget travelers in my latest TikTok, check it out!' The calls to action need to be clear and offer unique value for each platform. Also, remember that each platform has its own algorithm and content style. What works on Lemon8 (beautiful aesthetics, detailed guides) might need to be adapted for TikTok (fast-paced, trending sounds, short vlogs). Actively engage on both platforms, respond to comments, and participate in challenges. Collaboration, even with smaller creators, can also introduce your content to new, engaged audiences.
Monetizing your passion to reach that $2k goal requires a multi-faceted approach. Beyond brand partnerships, which often grow with your audience, consider diversifying your income streams early on. Affiliate marketing is a fantastic starting point – recommend travel gear, booking sites, or experiences you genuinely use and love. Look into creating digital products like niche-specific travel guides (e.g., 'Vegan Foodie Guide to Paris,' 'Budget Backpacking Southeast Asia'), printable itineraries, or even packing checklists. Some creators offer personalized travel planning services or virtual workshops on topics they're experts in. Think about what unique knowledge or resources you possess that your audience would pay for. The goal isn't just to get views, but to provide immense value that solves a problem or inspires action for your community.
And finally, never underestimate the power of community, which is why your 'seeking advice' approach is so smart! Engage with other travel creators. Comment thoughtfully on their posts, offer genuine support, and don't be afraid to reach out respectfully. The creator world can be incredibly collaborative once you start building those genuine connections. It’s okay if growth feels slow sometimes; it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Focus on consistency, authentic storytelling, and continuously learning and adapting. Keep refining your content, listening to your audience, and sharing your unique travel perspective. You're already on the right path by reaching out and growing, and remember, every successful travel creator started exactly where you are now!
