The way the title connected to the story and actually reflected the weight of the words? Yeah… that was amazing to witness. This book grabs you from the very beginning and does not let go. Tahli and Vin’s story was messy, emotional, frustrating, relatable, and honestly felt real.
And listen… Ms. Allen’s disclaimer at the beginning already told me I was about to be in for a rocky ride 😭. I’m playing devil’s advocate because I truly understood both sides. I loved them and wanted to fight them at the same time.
Abby finally telling Tahli how she really viewed everything was such a breath of fresh air. It added another layer to everything that was already unfolding. But I also think Tahli is carrying so much hurt from her mother, and you can see how deeply that affects the way she moves.
Now did Vin continue to mess up? Absolutely 😭. But this first book clearly feels like the setup for something bigger because there are still so many gaps left unanswered, and I honestly feel like that was intentional.
One thing about Takerra Allen — she’s going to put you on an emotional rollercoaster every single time, and somehow I keep signing up for it willingly.
