MerMay Day 31

What an incredible journey MerMay 2024 was! Finishing up on Day 31, I'm thrilled to look back at the 15 unique mermaids I brought to life throughout the month. It was such a fun challenge to push my creativity daily and explore so many different themes and styles. Each day, I sought inspiration from unexpected places, and a lot of it came from the natural world. For instance, my 'Strawberry' mermaid burst with playful reds, while the 'Dragon Fruit' mermaid was a vibrant splash of exotic pinks and greens. I loved how themes like 'Banana' and 'Coconut' lent themselves to whimsical, sun-drenched designs, bringing a touch of tropical paradise to my underwater scenes. It's truly fascinating how a simple concept can bloom into a fully-fledged character! Through this process, I focused on making each mermaid not just unique, but also visually captivating and full of life. It’s amazing how a theme like 'Blood Orange' can inspire a mermaid with a fiery personality and a bold, confident pose, or how the delicate hues of a 'Bluebell' or 'Lily of the Valley' can suggest a graceful, ethereal being. I paid close attention to flowing fins, expressive faces, and dynamic compositions to ensure each piece felt stunning. Even the intricate patterns of a 'Zebra Blue' butterfly or the rich colors of a 'Wine Cup' flower became muses for unique tail designs and color palettes, ensuring every mermaid had her own distinct allure. Using digital art tools really allowed me to experiment with shimmering scales and flowing hair, making each mermaid enchanting in her own way. Working digitally allowed me the freedom to experiment with layers of color and texture, bringing out the shimmering scales, translucent fins, and flowing hair that make mermaids so enchanting. I loved detailing the unique elements for each, whether it was the delicate feel of a 'Peruvian Lily' inspired tail or the rich, deep hues of a 'Fuchsia' or 'Hibiscus' colored fin. The beauty truly lies in these intricate details. I hope my collection inspires you to look for art in everyday things and perhaps even try your hand at creating something.
