Birth Trauma leads to dislocated shoulder

So Cal Chiropractic
2025/3/27 Edited to

... Read moreIt was a moment of pure joy that quickly turned to worry. After a challenging delivery, we learned our precious newborn had suffered a birth trauma, resulting in a dislocated shoulder and even foot drop. My heart ached, and I felt overwhelmed, searching for answers and the best path to healing. If you're a parent going through something similar, wondering 'how to know if baby arm is dislocated' or what 'infant shoulder dislocation treatment' options exist, I want to share what we learned on our journey. We discovered that infant shoulder dislocation often stems from something called shoulder dystocia during birth. This happens when a baby's shoulder gets stuck behind the mother's pubic bone after the head has delivered. It's a scary situation for everyone involved. Sometimes, medical interventions like the McRoberts maneuver (where the mother's legs are flexed sharply toward her abdomen to change the pelvic angle) are used to help free the baby. While often life-saving, these maneuvers, or even the natural forces of labor, can sometimes lead to injuries like a dislocated shoulder or nerve damage, which might present as Erb's Palsy or even foot drop. I remember thinking about 'dislocated shoulder pain vs childbirth' and realizing the physical toll on both me and my baby. Recognizing the signs of a dislocated shoulder in a newborn can be tough. Our baby showed limited movement in one arm, seemed uncomfortable when touched, and sometimes held the arm at an unusual angle. It's crucial to get a proper diagnosis quickly from pediatricians and specialists. Early intervention is key! For us, finding a multidisciplinary approach was essential. While traditional medical care involved monitoring and sometimes gentle manipulation, we also explored other avenues. The original article mentions chiropractic care, and for us, this was a significant part of our recovery plan. A specialized pediatric chiropractor can assess delicate infant structures, providing gentle adjustments to help restore proper alignment and nerve function, which was vital for both the dislocated shoulder and the foot drop. We found that these sessions, often just '1-2/week' initially, made a noticeable difference in our baby's comfort and mobility. Beyond specific treatments, creating a supportive environment at home was crucial. Ensuring our baby got plenty of 'sleep' seemed to aid in recovery and overall well-being. Gentle exercises and careful handling, always under professional guidance, helped strengthen the affected areas. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and there were days filled with worry, but seeing tiny improvements gave us so much hope. If your baby is dealing with a dislocated shoulder at birth or any birth injury, please know you're not alone. Seek expert advice, ask questions about all available treatments, and trust your instincts. Our experience taught me the importance of being proactive and exploring every option to give our little one the best chance at a full recovery.

How Unresolved Trauma Leads to Anxiety
I wish more people knew that when there are emotions that go unresolved and unaddressed, they don't just magically vanish out of nowhere... but in reality, they get stored deeply in our bodies, where it then feels as though we get anxiety "out of nowhere" or for "no reason.&#3
