Matthew 6:17-18 ~
But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
There’s a sacred kind of hunger…
The kind that food can’t satisfy.
Fasting isn’t about proving strength…
it’s about surrendering it.
It’s the moment we lay down what we can have…
to reach for what we truly need.
When we fast, we’re not just skipping meals…
we’re making room.
Room for His voice to be louder than the noise.
Room for His presence to be felt deeper than our cravings.
Room for His Spirit to fill every empty place inside of us.
Because sometimes…
we don’t realize how full we are of distractions
until we choose to be empty.
And in that emptiness…
He meets us! 🙌🏼
Not with condemnation…
but with closeness.
Not with silence…
but with whispers of truth.
What can you lay down today…not out of obligation, but out of love?
Whether it’s food, noise, social media, or control…
offer it to Him.
Let your hunger become a prayer.
Let your surrender become worship!
Lord, as I quiet my flesh, awaken my spirit.
Empty me of distractions and fill me with You.
Let every hunger I feel remind me of my deep need for Your presence.
Meet me in the quiet places, and draw me closer than ever before.
In Jesus’ name, Amen! 🤍

From my personal experience, fasting has always been more than abstaining from food—it's a profound invitation to quiet the noise that so often fills our daily lives. When I first began incorporating fasting into my spiritual practice, I was surprised by the vibrant clarity and peace that followed. By intentionally laying aside not only meals but also distractions such as social media and noise, I found that my spirit felt lighter and more receptive to God’s whispers. One powerful aspect of fasting is the deliberate effort to keep it private, as referenced in Matthew 6:17-18. This quiet surrender creates a sacred space where the heart can focus solely on God, free from the temptation of seeking human approval. This hidden devotion nurtures a genuine connection that feels intimate and renewing. It’s fascinating how fasting empties the excess and opens us up to be filled—filled with God’s presence, peace, and transformative love. I found that this emptiness also uncovered areas within me that needed healing and surrender. It became a form of worship, where hunger turned into prayer and longing was met with divine closeness. If you’re considering fasting, start small and approach it with a heart full of love rather than obligation. Whether it’s giving up certain foods, reducing screen time, or letting go of control, offering these sacrifices to God invites Him to fill those voids with His Spirit. You’ll learn to recognize hunger not just as physical emptiness but as a reminder of your deep thirst for spiritual nourishment. In embracing the practice described in "Fasting Friday ~ Empty to Be Filled," I encourage you to seek those quiet moments. Allow the fast to become a meaningful dialogue with God, where distractions fade, and His voice resonates more clearly than ever before. It’s a journey of laying down and being lifted up, an experience that continually enriches faith and personal growth.
