✨ Salted Pretzel Recipe ✨

It was snowy yesterday and you know the best thing to do on a snowy day….. MAKE PRETZELS.

Ingredients:

• 4-4 1/2 cups flour (I used bread flour)

• 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast

• 2 tablespoon light brown sugar

• 1 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1/4 cup oil

• 1 1/2 cup warm water

• 1 egg

• 1/4 cup baking soda

• Course salt for Topping

Directions:

- Combine the flour, brown sugar, salt, yeast, oil, and warm water in the bread machine and put it in the dough cycle.

- When the dough is done prepare a separate bowl of warm water and baking soda. And in another separate cup prepare the egg wash.

- Lightly flour your surface and cut a small strip of dough. Roll the dough into a log and then form it into the pretzel shape. Take the pretzel and dip it in the baking soda and water (make sure it goes under fully). Place the dipped pretzel on parchment paper and brush egg wash on top! Top with course sea salt to your liking

- Bake the pretzel at 450 degree Fahrenheit for 10-14 mins or until golden brown.

... Read moreMaking homemade salted pretzels is such a rewarding experience, especially on a cozy snowy day when you want something warm and comforting. One tip I've learned from trying this recipe is to be patient with the dough—using bread flour helps achieve that ideal chewy texture, and letting the bread machine handle the mixing and rising makes things so much easier. When shaping the pretzels, flour your surface lightly so the dough doesn’t stick, but not too much or it could dry out the dough. Rolling each piece into a uniform log before forming the classic pretzel shape makes for more consistent baking results. The baking soda bath is a crucial step; dipping each pretzel fully in the baking soda and water mixture gives the pretzel its signature deep brown color and slight crispness after baking. I found that using coarse sea salt for the topping really enhances the flavor — sprinkle it generously but to your taste. For baking, maintaining the oven at 450°F and baking for around 10-14 minutes until the pretzels turn golden brown ensures a perfect crust. If you want a slightly softer inside, try brushing them with an egg wash before baking, which also helps the salt stick better. Overall, this recipe yields soft yet slightly crisp pretzels that are perfect as a snack or paired with mustard or cheese dip. I've also experimented with adding a bit of cinnamon and sugar for a sweet variation — dipping the pretzels in the baking soda bath and then sprinkling sugar before baking gives a delicious twist to this classic treat. It's a fantastic recipe to try if you're new to baking pretzels or want a foolproof homemade version.
