5 things I did to lose over 80 pounds

+ Walk! I didn’t feel good enough to get to a gym at first so I did the simplest movement I could! Walking! I randomly picked 10,000 steps to be my goal and I stuck to it every day!

+ I focused on protein! Protein from real foods! I bought a scale and actually weighed the protein I was eating to make sure I hit a minimum of 30 grams per meal and 100grams per day!

+ water! I flavored my water with true lemon lemonade and it helped me chug water all day the long! The more hydrated I got the less cravings I had!

+ intermittent fasting! I followed the 16:8 window! I fasted for 16 hours and split my meals into an 8 hour window! I recommend making your eating window fit around your most important meal! I made sure to eat dinner with my husband everyday!

+ I focused on today! I always focused on the day in front of me and asked myself how can I conquer the day! I didn’t overwhelm myself with how long the process was going to take and how hard it would be! I focused on tackling the day in-front of me! How can I get my steps in TODAY? How can I get my protein in TODAY!

I stuck to this 5 basics when I first started my journey! That’s how I built momentum!

When it comes to walking, those 10,000 steps were just the beginning. To really accelerate my weight loss and make my body work harder, I started incorporating inclines whenever possible, whether on a treadmill or by finding hilly routes outdoors. Sometimes, I’d even do short bursts of faster walking or jogging for a minute, then slow down, turning my walks into a form of interval training. It wasn't about running marathons, but about making each walk a little more challenging than the last. This really helped to burn more calories and boost my metabolism, making the journey to lose 80 pounds feel more active and less daunting. Regarding protein, I discovered that thinking beyond just chicken breast was key. I experimented with incorporating plant-based proteins like lentils, chickpeas, and tofu, which added variety and fiber to my diet. Greek yogurt became my go-to for a quick, protein-packed snack, and I even started adding a scoop of unflavored protein powder to my morning oats or smoothies on busy days. Ensuring I hit my protein goal consistently not only kept me full but also helped protect my muscle mass as I lost weight, which is crucial for a healthy metabolism. Hydration, as I mentioned, is a game-changer. Beyond lemon, I often flavored my water with cucumber and mint, or a splash of apple cider vinegar (diluted, of course!) for an extra health kick. I carried a large reusable water bottle everywhere, making it easy to track my intake and reminding me to sip throughout the day. What I noticed was that when I was truly hydrated, I felt more energetic and less prone to mistaking thirst for hunger, which is a common trap when you're trying to lose weight. Intermittent fasting initially felt restrictive, but once I got into a rhythm, it became second nature. To make it easier, I gradually shortened my eating window. I started with 12:12, then moved to 14:10, and eventually settled on 16:8. I also found that planning my meals within that 8-hour window was crucial. I'd make sure my largest meal was dinner, allowing me to enjoy it with my family, and my other meals were nutrient-dense to keep me satisfied. Finally, that daily focus on 'today' was my secret weapon against overwhelm. When I started, the idea of losing 80 pounds felt like an insurmountable task.
