Why I’m starting my non toxic journey ✨

I’ve recently decided that moving towards a non toxic lifestyle is something that I want to pursue. After a recent diagnosis with hypothyroidism, I’m finding it more important than ever to really know about what goes in, on, and around my body and how that affects my health. I’m still doing my own research and getting educated on this subject, but I don’t think it’s a secret that a lot of household items are not necessarily beneficial for our health.

My main goal is to take it slow. Switching to non toxic products can be VERY expensive. I want to replace as I run out of things and try to find what works for me long term.

I literally know NOTHING about what this journey will look like or how I know what ingredients I’m looking for/not looking for in products. I’m learning more and more everyday, and as I feel more confident I’ll start sharing resources! I’m hoping that making a conscious effort to be more clean and give my money to brands that support wellness will be the step towards change.

I’ve already started to make the switch and I follow some amazing creators that give great recs! I really want to document here what I’ve tried, what I liked about it, and if it felt like a worthy replacement enough to repurchase.

If this seems like something you would be interested in, please stay and let’s chat!! 💓

... Read moreEmbarking on my non-toxic journey has been such an eye-opener, and honestly, a bit daunting at first! Like many of you, I wanted to make healthier choices for my body and home, but the sheer volume of information (and misinformation) can be overwhelming. That's why finding reliable resources has been key to making my non-toxic transition feel manageable and truly 'eco-smart.' One of the most invaluable tools I've discovered is the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Think of their databases and apps as your personal 'smart meter' for product safety. When I first started, I had no clue which ingredients to avoid or which brands were genuinely committed to clean practices. The EWG website, particularly their Skin Deep database for personal care products and their Healthy Living app, has become my go-to. It allows me to quickly 'meter' or assess the toxicity levels of products, giving me a clear rating and breakdown of potential concerns. This has empowered me to make informed, eco-conscious decisions without needing a chemistry degree! For instance, when I ran out of my old dish soap, instead of just grabbing the usual, I pulled out my phone, scanned a few options, and picked one with a top EWG rating. It felt like a small win, a tangible step forward in my non-toxic journey. This 'smart meter' approach helps me prioritize what to replace first and ensures I'm investing in truly cleaner alternatives. It’s not just about avoiding harsh chemicals; it’s about supporting brands that align with a healthier planet too – that’s the 'eco' part I truly value. My advice for anyone else just starting their non-toxic journey, or looking to make more 'eco-smart' choices, is to begin with one category at a time. Maybe it’s your laundry detergent, your body lotion, or even your cooking oils. Use the EWG's 'smart meter' to guide your selections. You don't have to overhaul everything overnight; remember, the original article perfectly highlighted the need to take it slow and replace items as they run out. This gradual approach makes it sustainable and prevents that feeling of being overwhelmed. It’s amazing how much more aware I've become about the ingredients in everyday items. This non-toxic journey isn't just about avoiding the bad; it's about embracing a lifestyle that supports overall well-being, for myself and the environment. Every 'eco-smart' choice, no matter how small, contributes to a healthier future. And with tools like EWG, it feels much less like guesswork and more like a guided, empowering experience.
