@hanne_engan I spent 9 days in ICE detention and it was the worst days of my life.

My case was eventually terminated because I had filed the necessary paperwork with USCIS

(I’m married to a US citizen, that’s why we were at our green card interview)

The whole experience was beyond traumatic.! am diabetic and was denied insulin to a point where my blood sugar went over 500. I was near losing my life.

While I was in detention an agent or guard stole my credit card and started using it WHILE I WAS STILL IN THERE. There’s so much to share.

... Read moreGoing through ICE detention was by far one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever had. Being diabetic, the denial of insulin was life-threatening—my blood sugar skyrocketed above 500, and I truly feared for my life. It highlighted severe healthcare neglect within detention centers that many detainees face but rarely get to speak about. Aside from the medical neglect, I also experienced theft firsthand while detained. An agent or guard stole my credit card and started using it while I was still locked up, which added insult to injury and showed how vulnerable detainees are to abuse and exploitation. The emotional toll of detention is immense. Being away from loved ones, facing uncertainty about your legal status, and enduring harsh conditions create a deeply traumatic environment. If you're married to a U.S. citizen and navigating the immigration process, ensure all your paperwork with USCIS is meticulously filed to avoid unnecessary detention or complications. My case was eventually terminated only because I had the proper documents submitted, which saved me from a worse outcome. I’m sharing my story to raise awareness about the critical issues of immigration detention, medical neglect, and human rights violations. Too many people go through this silently. If you or someone you know is facing similar struggles, know that you are not alone. There are communities and legal resources that can help. Please follow my journey if you want to hear more about navigating ICE detention, immigration processes, and coping with chronic illness during such hardships.

A black and white illustration shows a sad, awake woman lying in bed next to a peacefully sleeping man. Overlay text reads 'READ THIS BEFORE FORGIVING YOUR PARTNER FOR CHEATING ON YOU,' reflecting the article's theme of infidelity and its emotional impact.
