I found adding bulgur to my meals improves my energy and keeps me feeling full longer, which is essential as metabolism tends to slow down with age. Green lentils are packed with protein and essential minerals like iron and magnesium, crucial for maintaining muscle mass and bone health. Including lentils in salads or soups has been a simple way for me to get plant-based protein without the heaviness of red meat. Plums are not only delicious but also packed with antioxidants and dietary fiber. Their antioxidants help combat oxidative stress, a common issue that increases with aging. Eating plums as a snack or in smoothies has enhanced my digestion and gave me a natural immunity boost. Avocados are rich in healthy monounsaturated fats, which support heart health and help maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Plus, they contain potassium and vitamins that help with skin hydration and joint health, both of which become increasingly important after 50. I love spreading avocado on whole-grain toast for a satisfying breakfast. Including fish in my diet a few times a week has helped me manage joint stiffness and supports mental clarity. Pairing these with mindful eating habits and regular physical activity can amplify their benefits. Taking care of your body really is the best gift you can give to yourself as you age.
