Many of us often say, "I don't have time," only to realize later that we have spent a significant portion of our day scrolling through social media or browsing online content. In fact, it's not uncommon to see people spend anywhere from 47 minutes to over 4 hours (247 minutes) engaging in this activity. This surprisingly large amount of time can quietly eat up our productivity and personal moments. From personal experience, I noticed how easily I would lose track of time while scrolling. What started as a quick check would turn into long stretches of endless scrolling through posts, videos, and images. This habit not only drains time but can also negatively impact mental well-being by increasing feelings of distraction and reducing focus. To combat this, I began setting strict time limits for my daily social media use by using built-in app timers. Replacing scrolling time with intentional activities such as reading, exercising, or pursuing hobbies made a significant difference. I also learned the importance of scheduling breaks with purpose instead of passive scrolling. Understanding the impact of scrolling habits on our time management helps us challenge the excuse, "I don’t have time." By raising awareness and making small changes, anyone can reclaim valuable minutes in their day to invest in meaningful activities and improve overall productivity and satisfaction.
