Happy New Year!!! Let the health and wellness journey begin! 💪🏾🎉 Remember, nothing happens overnight, and it's all about consistency and small wins 🙌🏾. I just wanted to drop this here for some motivation to start 2025 strong!
‼️I must also say Iykyk, winter is not the original start of a "new year" it's actually spring. Spring is factually the best time for new life to start, and winter is notably the worst time, lol. Thats honestly why so many people aren't successful with their New Year goals. So don't feel bad if it's a tad bit challenging to start your goals. It's not meant to work this way, but just known you can do anything you put your mind to. 💯

... Read moreHey everyone! So, we've all been there, right? That fresh New Year energy hits, and we're ready to conquer the world with our health and wellness goals. But then, February rolls around, and suddenly that gym membership feels a little heavier than our weights. I totally get it! My original post touched on why winter can be a tricky time for new beginnings, and it's so true. But that doesn't mean we can't make amazing progress, even now. It’s all about shifting our mindset and focusing on what truly works: consistency and celebrating those small, daily wins.
How do we actually do consistency when motivation wanes? For me, it starts with making it incredibly easy to show up. Instead of aiming for an hour-long gym session every single day, which can feel daunting when it's dark and cold outside, I might commit to just 15-20 minutes. That could be a quick bodyweight circuit at home, a brisk walk around the block (bundle up!), or even a mindful stretching routine. You know that feeling when you're in your sports bra and headphones, ready to sweat? Even a short burst can give you that confidence boost! The goal isn't perfection, it's showing up.
Another game-changer for consistency is habit stacking. Pair your new healthy habit with an existing one. For example, after I brush my teeth in the morning, I immediately drink a large glass of water. Or after my evening show, I do 10 minutes of stretching. It makes it almost automatic. And don't underestimate the power of a visual tracker! A simple calendar where you mark off each day you stick to your goal can be incredibly motivating. Seeing those X's accumulate is like seeing your own progress unfold, a real flexing bicep for your dedication!
Now, about those "small wins" – they are the fuel that keeps us going. It’s not just about losing X pounds or running X miles. It's about choosing that fresh fruit over a sugary snack, getting to bed 30 minutes earlier, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Maybe it’s successfully prepping healthy lunches for the week, or trying a new nutritious recipe. Each tiny victory builds momentum and boosts your self-belief. Remember the feeling of confidence from a good workout, or the sense of accomplishment after a challenging warm-up? These small wins add up to that same feeling of strength and readiness for your journey.
And for those of us struggling with the winter blues impacting our goals, here are a few extra tips. Embrace hearty, warming, and nutritious meals. Think soups, stews, and roasted veggies. Focus on indoor activities you enjoy – maybe trying a new yoga class, dancing in your living room, or finding an indoor pool. Utilize natural light as much as possible, or consider a light therapy lamp if seasonal affective disorder is an issue. Instead of fighting the urge to "hibernate," maybe use this time for planning, learning new healthy recipes, or gentle movement. It's truly about finding what works for you in *this season*. You've got this, and every step, no matter how small, is a step forward on your amazing health and wellness journey!
