Gen X Weren't Allowered to Have Meltdowns

Gen X women weren’t allowed to have meltdowns.

We were the strong ones.

The reliable ones.

The ones who handled it.

If we were overwhelmed?

We powered through.

If we were hurting?

We stayed quiet.

No drama.

No excuses.

No falling apart.

So now we don’t even know how to fall apart safely.

We just keep functioning.

But strength without support turns into silent burnout.

If you’re a Gen X woman who’s tired of holding it all together —

take the Quiz in my bio or sign up for my free webinar next month.

It’s time to see where you really are.

... Read moreGrowing up as a Gen X woman often meant carrying the heavy expectation of being the unshakable pillar of strength for family and work alike. From early experiences, we learned that expressing vulnerability was discouraged—with phrases like "no drama" and "no excuses" echoing through our childhood and adult environments. This ingrained resilience, while admirable, sometimes morphed into emotional suppression, causing many of us to overlook the importance of mental and emotional self-care. Personally, I found myself powering through moments of overwhelm and hurt, not because I had the energy, but because I felt obligated to maintain stability for those around me. Only with time did I realize that this accumulation of silent stress silently eroded my well-being, resulting in burnout that caught me off guard. Learning to recognize the signs of burnout—such as chronic fatigue, irritability, and detachment—was crucial. I began seeking supportive communities, like those tagged #genxwomen and #over50women, where shared experiences created a safe space to express what was once taboo. Interactive resources such as quizzes and webinars targeting Gen X mental health proved invaluable in guiding me towards healthier coping strategies. If you relate to the pressure of always having to "handle it," it's important to remember that falling apart safely isn't a weakness—it’s a vital step toward healing. Engaging in self-reflection, seeking professional support, and connecting with peer communities can foster resilience that combines strength with support, helping to transform silent burnout into empowered self-awareness.

A title card with white text 'HE'S NOT "THE ONE" IF....' against a background of dark, bare tree branches silhouetted against a cloudy, grey sky, setting the theme for relationship advice.
A list of relationship red flags, including 'He doesn't feel like a safe space for you' and 'He makes you doubt your worth,' displayed over a blurred image of a person's legs in jeans, sitting outdoors.
Text reflecting on past relationships versus a happy current one, concluding with 'STOP SETTLING!', overlaid on a cozy outdoor scene featuring a burning campfire in a stone pit with bare trees and a sunset in the background.
How I Knew My Ex’s Weren’t “the One”
I dated some frogs before meeting my husband. The kind that lie constantly, treated me like crap and had literal girlfriends on the side (but don’t worry, I was his main gf). But back then I thought that was normal. I thought that that was just what guys did and that I couldn’t expect any better.

you weren't crazy, you just cared too deeply.
They said you were “too much”… But really, you just felt deeply in a world that taught you to suppress your truth. You weren’t overthinking—your heart was just louder than your logic. And that’s not weakness. That’s humanity.💔➡️❤️‍🩹 #OverFeeling #SensitiveNotBroken #RecoveryRoomWithJ
