GenX connectioned to Over Give
“Does an entire generation of women have a complicated relationship with their mothers… that quietly taught us to over give?
To be the strong one. The fixer. The peacemaker.
And somewhere along the way, chronic over-giving became toxic relationships, burnout, and survival mode.
But what if this is the season we stop surviving… and start rediscovering our passion?

As a member of Generation X, I've noticed a strong inclination within many women of my cohort to put others' needs before their own, often driven by deep-rooted lessons learned from our relationships with our mothers. These dynamics have frequently led us to become the 'strong one,' the 'fixer,' or the 'peacemaker.' While these roles can feel empowering initially, over time, chronic overgiving can transform into an exhausting pattern that saps our energy and impacts our mental health. In my own experience, this tendency to overgive resulted in burnout and a loss of self-identity. I found myself constantly surviving daily challenges instead of truly living. Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward healing. Setting boundaries and rediscovering passions outside caregiving roles has been transformative. Engaging in supportive communities like #genxwomen or #womenover50 helped me see that I am not alone in this journey. Sharing stories and strategies to reclaim our authority encourages growth and balance. Resources such as quizzes to assess overgiving tendencies and webinars focused on empowerment have provided actionable guidance to break free from survival mode. If you resonate with these struggles, consider taking time to reflect on your personal patterns of giving and explore resources tailored for Gen X women. It's possible to cultivate healthier relationships with yourself and others by prioritizing self-care and recognizing your worth beyond the caretaker role. This season truly can mark a shift from mere survival to passionate living on your own terms.
