Fresh ginger and garlic provide that essential aromatic foundation, making the seasoning vibrant and complex. For best results, gently heat the soy sauce and mirin together before adding the garlic and ginger to release their flavors fully. Toasting the chili flakes slightly in the warmed mixture can also bring out a richer aroma.
