no situationships in 2024

last year, i spent half the year in a series of questionable, frustrating, and ultimately eye-opening situation-ships.
i have always known i wanted a sort of romance that would fulfill not just my physical or emotional needs, but my spiritual ones as well. that sort of compatibility and synergy doesn’t exist in every connection, and we find ourselves emotionally attached to people who might not be fulfilling any of our needs (except bare minimum social interaction).
situation-ships are rough, and heart-wrenching sometimes- and so then, why do we even bother with them? and how do we stop?
i met a guy last week that i immediately felt very connected to, but the more we got to know each other, the more i understood we wouldn’t be able to properly fulfill each others needs. he was looking for more of a friendship with intimacy (fwb) and i was in search of my life-long partner, while also continuing to work on myself. when i met him, I had no intentions of trying to date him or even liking him. You know the saying ‘The heart wants what it wants,’? …yeah.
now- i find myself at a standstill. i know, in my heart and soul, that there is no need to continue developing a connection with this person. i am attracted to him, and him me, and yet there is a clear issue still present. what impact will we have on each others lives? will it be a force for good? from the looks of it, if i’m being honest with you and more importantly, myself, NOPE. this “situationship” will have me falling in love with a man who will not be able to provide me with what i believe i deserve, which is a loving and caring relationship.
and if you’re in a similar spot, that leaves us with a decision to make. will we follow our hearts blindly, or will we choose ourselves in our search for someone who will choose us too.
we are worthy of love.
i don’t know if i’ll never respond to him again, i don’t. what i do know is that if i do what’s good for me, i’ll be leaving situationships behind in this new year. i know that i want someone who will truly love and care for me,
who can receive and return an unconditional love.
