How did you moms go about rediscovering and findin

2025/8/8 Edited to

... Read moreMotherhood is a profound journey filled with many emotional changes, and it often challenges a woman's sense of identity. For many moms, especially those struggling with mental illness, rediscovering and finding oneself can feel overwhelming and isolating. It’s common to feel lost or disconnected from the person you once were, as captured by the heartfelt question: "I haven’t felt like myself in forever, honestly, I don’t even remember me." Understanding that this experience is shared by many women can be validating and the first step toward healing. Mental health challenges during motherhood, such as postpartum depression and anxiety, affect a significant portion of new mothers, yet stigma and lack of support often prevent open discussion and help-seeking. Building a community of support, like those found in groups tagged #momsbattlingmentalillness and #momsupportingmoms, can provide critical emotional relief and practical advice. These communities offer safe spaces for sharing stories, coping techniques, and encouragement, which can empower moms to reclaim their sense of self. Practical approaches to rediscovery include dedicating time to self-care, seeking professional mental health support, engaging in activities that reignite passions beyond motherhood, and nurturing relationships outside the maternal role. Mindfulness and therapy can aid in addressing feelings of loss and rebuilding confidence. Additionally, creating routines that balance parenting duties with personal interests helps restore identity and well-being. It’s important for mothers to recognize that self-care is not selfish but essential for their health and their children’s well-being. In conclusion, rediscovering oneself in motherhood, particularly while battling mental illness, requires awareness, support, and intentional action. By connecting with communities and embracing holistic care, moms can navigate this challenging phase and emerge stronger, more self-aware, and fulfilled.

Find a new at home hobby that’s relatively easy to learn/do. I learned how to crochet when my son was 4 months, and slowly tried to incorporate reading back into my day. It takes me forever to finish “one hour” projects, but I can do a new book about a week so maybe start there. Find a book club (online works, I’ll do it for you if you want 😂) and take suggestions that maybe don’t sound like something you’d like. I wasn’t sure I would like Assistant for The Villain, but I loved it. Throne of Glass has actually been pretty good too. Even took a recommendation from this app (Tender is the Flesh if you like darker stuff).
