New Plant Mom 🌱
Finally getting the opportunity and I’m taking full advantage 💕
Okay, so I finally took the plunge and officially became a plant mom! 🌱 For so long, I've admired everyone's lush indoor jungles, and now, it's my turn. There's this huge mix of excitement and a tiny bit of fear, like, 'Can I actually keep these green babies alive?' But honestly, I'm taking full advantage of this new adventure. If you're also embarking on this delightful journey as a new plant mom, here are a few things I've learned already, or wish I knew from the start! 1. Start Simple: Don't go for the notoriously finicky plants right away. My first picks were a Pothos and a Snake Plant. Everyone says they're hard to kill, and so far, so good! They’re super forgiving and give you that confidence boost you need. 2. Light is Key: This was a big "aha!" moment for me. I thought all plants just needed some light. Turns out, understanding whether your plant needs bright indirect light, low light, or direct sun is crucial. I spent ages moving my plants around until I found their happy spots. A quick Google search for your specific plant varieties helps a ton! 3. Don't Overwater! This is probably the number one killer for houseplants. It's so tempting to water them every day, especially when you're excited about your new role. But most plants prefer their soil to dry out a bit between waterings. I got myself a cheap moisture meter, and it’s been a lifesaver. You can also just stick your finger about an inch or two into the soil – if it feels dry, it’s time. 4. Humidity Matters (Sometimes): I live in a drier climate, and I noticed some of my plants (looking at you, Prayer Plant!) were getting crispy edges. A small humidifier nearby or even misting them occasionally can make a huge difference. You'll quickly learn which of your plant children are divas when it comes to humidity! 5. Embrace the Learning Curve: Not every plant will thrive, and that's okay! I had a little begonia that just never seemed happy, no matter what I did. It was sad to see it go, but it taught me a lot about patience and not taking it too personally. Every plant is a lesson, right? 6. Join a Community: This has been game-changing for me. Finding other plant moms online, whether it's through Lemon8, Instagram, or Facebook groups, has provided so much support and advice. It's amazing to see what others are doing and to get quick answers to my plant dilemmas. Becoming a new plant mom is truly a rewarding experience. It brings so much life and greenery into my space, and there's something incredibly satisfying about nurturing another living thing. If you're considering it, just go for it! You won't regret it.
