Try this with the highlighter tool in Goodnotes 🩵

The highlighter tool is honestly something I use on pretty much every page in my digital planner, but I don’t really use it in the traditional way!

I love using the highlighter tool to create little bullet points on my to do list, weekly planner and more! I use different hex codes to coordinate the colors to my planner page and it’s so easy to do! Just move the highlighter size up a little and tap the screen once to create the perfect dot!

I also use the highlighter to mark events and dates to remember on my calendar pages! I love being able to visually see how much I have going on during the month. I also like to categorize by using different colors for work, birthdays, events etc.

How do you use the highlighter tool in Goodnotes??

... Read moreOkay, so you've heard about some cool ways to use the Goodnotes highlighter tool, right? I totally get it – it's one of those features that just keeps surprising you with its versatility! While I absolutely love using it for creating neat bullet points and color-coding my calendar, there's so much more you can unlock with this simple tool to truly master your digital planning on your iPad. Let me dive a bit deeper into some of my personal favorite tips and tricks that have transformed my workflow. First off, let's talk about customizing your highlighter in Goodnotes. We often just pick a color and go, but did you know you can create and save your own custom color palettes? This is a game-changer for maintaining a consistent aesthetic throughout your digital planner. Instead of just using the default colors, head into the highlighter settings, tap on a color, and then you can input specific hex codes – perfect for matching your planner's theme or even your favorite stationery! Once you’ve got your perfect shades, hit the '+' button to save them. This way, your favorite pastel pink or deep teal is always just a tap away on your Goodnotes toolbar, no more hunting for the right shade. This really helps when you want to highlight important dates with a specific color scheme or keep your bullet points looking cohesive. Beyond just bullet points and marking dates for categorization, I’ve experimented with the highlighter tool for other practical uses. For instance, I use it to create quick visual dividers on my daily or weekly planning pages. Instead of drawing lines with the pen tool, a wide, semi-transparent highlight stroke can beautifully separate sections like "To-Do," "Notes," and "Appointments." It's faster, often looks cleaner, and you can really play with the opacity to get that perfect soft, layered look. This is especially useful when I'm quickly jotting down ideas and want to visually organize them on the fly. Another fantastic way I use the Goodnotes highlighter is for mood tracking or habit tracking. Imagine having a simple monthly tracker where you fill in a small square each day with a specific color representing your mood or whether you completed a habit. A yellow highlight for 'happy,' blue for 'relaxed,' etc. It’s super visual, satisfying to complete, and gives you a quick overview of your patterns without needing complex graphs. The Goodnotes toolbar makes switching between saved colors effortless, allowing for speedy tracking. And speaking of the Goodnotes toolbar, optimizing it for your workflow is key, especially if you're primarily using your iPad for planning. I often arrange my toolbar so my most-used tools, like the highlighter, pen, and eraser, are easily accessible. You can customize the toolbar layout by tapping and holding an icon. Think about how you use your tools: do you highlight immediately after writing? Then keep them close! Also, remember the lasso tool is your best friend when using the highlighter – if you make a highlight a bit too big or in the wrong spot, you can easily select and resize or move it without erasing your underlying text. This level of customization truly helps you personalize your Goodnotes toolbar iPad experience. For my fellow iPad users, here’s a pro tip: use split view! Sometimes I’ll have my Goodnotes planner open on one side and a Safari window with a hex code generator or a mood-tracking color key on the other. This makes selecting and inputting colors incredibly efficient. It's these little tricks that turn the basic Goodnotes highlighter tool into a powerful ally for productivity and creativity. Experiment with different highlighter sizes and opacities too! Don't be afraid to play around; you might discover your own unique ways to integrate this fantastic tool into your digital planning routine. Happy planning!
