All of their products contain natural flavors and citric acid, both of which are derived in a lab and there is nothing natural about them. Like many of you, I was drawn to brands like Bloom, seeing their beautiful packaging and hearing all the buzz. I thought, "Surely, if it's marketed as greens and superfoods, it must be good for me, right?" But after trying their products, I started noticing some uncomfortable side effects – persistent bloating, an upset stomach, and just an overall feeling of discomfort that I couldn't shake. It left me wondering, why does Bloom make my stomach hurt or make me gassy? My initial excitement turned into a quest for answers. That's when I started to really scrutinize the ingredient lists, and what I found was quite eye-opening. Despite claims of being plant-based, dairy-free, and gluten-free, which sound great on the surface, some ingredients are far from what I'd consider truly beneficial for gut health. Two major culprits that often get overlooked are 'natural flavors' and 'citric acid.' You see, while they sound innocuous, these aren't always derived from whole, natural sources. Often, they're chemically processed in labs, and their effects on our digestive system can be anything but natural. For me, these seemed to be the trigger for a lot of the issues many of us experience, like bloating, gas, and even constipation – common queries I've seen others have too. Many of us reach for greens or pre-workout drinks hoping for an energy boost or to feel good, but if they're causing issues like stomach pain or making you feel gassy, it defeats the purpose. The 'natural flavors,' whether it's coconut flavor in the greens or raspberry lemonade flavor in a pre-workout, can contain proprietary blends that hide a cocktail of chemicals. Similarly, citric acid, often used as a preservative or for tartness, can be inflammatory for sensitive guts, contributing to that uncomfortable feeling of being bloated. This really challenged my perception of what makes a supplement 'healthy for you' or 'good for you.' I realized that just because something is marketed well doesn't mean it aligns with my body's needs. My personal takeaway has been to always, always read the ingredients list carefully. Don't just trust the front-of-package claims. Look for transparency. If a brand isn't clear about what's in their 'natural flavors' or if they heavily rely on industrially produced acids, it might be worth exploring other options. For those of us looking for genuine gut health support, focusing on whole food ingredients, probiotics, and prebiotics from identifiable sources is key. There are fantastic brands out there that offer truly clean ingredients that won't leave you wondering, is Bloom bad for you? or can Bloom cause constipation?
