Bible Study | Calming My Anxiety At Night As A Mom
I recently starting Bible studying to find a way to help with my anxiety as a new mom. Some days it is unbearable and let’s be honest, it’s so exhausting to be filled with none stop worry. I am working on being better at trusting god and his plan so tonight this verse resonated with me. Psalm 4:8 ~In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, lord, make me feel in safety.

Instead of rest, my mind often races with worries about everything from feeding schedules to future unknowns, making it incredibly tough to fall asleep. It’s a common struggle, and I've found immense comfort in turning to specific Bible verses to help calm my anxious thoughts and finally *lay me down in peace and sleep*.
The original post touched on Psalm 4:8, which has truly become a cornerstone for my bedtime routine. "In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety." This verse is a powerful reminder that true rest comes from trusting in God's protection. It helps me quiet the internal chatter, allowing me to start the process of letting go and not worry about things outside my control.
But sometimes, one verse isn't enough to settle a busy mind, especially when you're dealing with sleepless nights or feeling overwhelmed by the weight of new motherhood. I've gathered a few more scriptures that have been incredibly helpful to me when I need a deeper sense of peace and a gentle push towards sleep. These are perfect for a bedtime devotional for women who, like me, are searching for solace.
Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." This passage is a direct command to release anxiety through prayer. When my mind is spinning, I try to list out my worries to God, then thank Him for His presence, and I feel a tangible shift in my heart.
Matthew 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Oh, how often this verse speaks to my soul after a long day with a baby! It's a beautiful invitation to surrender our burdens to Jesus and receive the rest only He can provide.
Psalm 23:2-3: "He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul." The imagery here is so calming. I often visualize myself in these peaceful scenes, allowing my mind to slow down and my soul to be refreshed, preparing me for a night of rest.
Proverbs 3:24: "When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet." This verse offers a promise of sweet sleep, free from fear. It's a wonderful affirmation to speak over myself as I prepare to drift off.
Incorporating these bible verses for sleep and anxiety into a bible reading for tonight routine has been a game-changer. I don't necessarily read them all every night. Sometimes it's just one that resonates. I might write down my thoughts or worries in a journal first, then read a chosen scripture, and spend a few minutes in silent prayer. It's about creating a sacred space and time to connect with God, allowing His word to soothe my spirit. This practice has not only helped me with sleepless nights but also strengthened my faith as a *new mother*. It reminds me that even when the world feels chaotic, I can always find peace in His unfailing love and promises.
I decided to start reading Psalms too! Dealing with anxiety is hard and I have a prescription to help with it a little but on your worse days you have to force yourself to do something small to occupy yourself that helps me but you gotta really force yourself to
