how to prep for a new semester 🤓

i'm finally in my last semester of grad school! 🎉 It has truly been a process and I almost can't believe that I made it here. Since this is my last time going through the preparation process for my semester, I thought I would share my process with all of you.

1. buy a new notebook and "set it up" - i use a new notebook for each of my classes (it makes for a nice and easy to search notebook collection upon graduation). As a ritual, I go to target and buy a moleskin classic journal and write the name of the course and any important information on the front page. All notes and scratch work for this class goes in this notebook.

2. PRINT the syllabus and read it thorougly - yes, physically PRINT out the syllabus and read through it. Printing the syllabus ensures that you have the original version that was provided when the semester started. This makes your syllabus read more intentional, and also offers you some protection if your professor makes updates to the syllabus without informing the class.

3. Write important dates on the calendar - I use a paper caldendar to track my life(there's a full post on my page about its set up if you want to use it). Every semester I go in and add all of the days that I have class and the day that specific assignments are due. This calendar stays nailed to my wall and is easily visible, so I always have a glanceable view of what's coming up.

And that's my preperation ritual for every semester. What's yours?!

... Read moreAs you prepare for a new semester, creating a well-structured plan can significantly enhance your academic experience. Start by reflecting on your previous semester's performance – identify what worked well and what didn't. Consider setting specific goals for the upcoming semester, whether that's improving grades in certain subjects or participating more actively in class discussions. Investing in good organizational tools can make all the difference. In addition to new notebooks, you might find productivity apps helpful for tracking assignments and deadlines. Digital calendars can send reminders right to your phone, ensuring you never miss an important due date. In addition to managing your class syllabi, think about forming study groups with peers. This not only provides motivation but also encourages collaborative learning, which can deepen your understanding of the material. Utilizing study landmarks, such as exam dates and project deadlines, can keep everyone aligned and engaged. Don't forget to incorporate self-care into your prep! Balancing study time with relaxation is crucial for maintaining your motivation and mental health throughout the semester. Plan short breaks, make time for hobbies, and ensure you get enough sleep. Implementing these strategies can help set a positive and productive tone as you embark on this new academic journey.
