Having recently explored this expanded exhibit myself, I was truly impressed by the thoughtful design that replicates the natural habitats of animals such as red pandas and snow leopards. The addition of the Sichuan takin, a unique species native to the Eastern Himalayas, adds to the diversity and educational value of the area. One highlight was watching the snow leopards roam their spacious environment. Their agile movements and striking fur patterns made for an unforgettable sight. Similarly, the red pandas’ playful behavior captivated visitors of all ages. The zoo staff have also done a wonderful job providing informative signage about these animals and the delicate ecosystems they inhabit, raising awareness about conservation efforts. The Asian Highlands zone is part of the larger Imagine Asia initiative, which aims to immerse visitors in the culture and biodiversity of the continent’s mountainous regions. The seamless blend of landscaping, animal exhibits, and cultural elements creates a captivating experience that goes beyond a traditional zoo visit. If you plan to visit, I recommend allocating a couple of hours to fully explore the Asian Highlands, watch the animals during their active periods, and enjoy the serene walking paths. It's a fantastic educational outing for families, wildlife enthusiasts, and anyone interested in Asian natural heritage. The Calgary Zoo continues to impress with its dedication to animal welfare and environmental education, making this new exhibit a must-see.
