... Read moreIt's true, I'm absolutely obsessed with the idea of one day calling San Juan home! When I say I want to "get a place here," it’s more than just a fleeting thought—it's a deep-seated dream fueled by everything I adore about Puerto Rican backgrounds. I've spent countless hours exploring photos, listening to bomba and plena music, and reading stories from locals and travelers alike, and there's just an undeniable pull to the island's vibrant culture and the incredible sense of community.
For me, the idea of living in San Juan isn't just about the beautiful beaches or the historic architecture, though those are definitely a huge part of the appeal. It's about immersing myself in the daily rhythms, the incredible food scene – from mofongo to pastelillos – and the genuine warmth of the people. Imagine waking up every day to the sounds of the city waking up, grabbing a freshly brewed café con leche, and strolling through Old San Juan. The colorful colonial buildings, the intricate ironwork balconies, and the historic cobblestone streets – every corner tells a story, and that rich, living history is a background I desperately want to be a part of. The energy is palpable, a mix of old-world charm and modern Caribbean life.
I often picture myself spending a magical Summer San Juan, enjoying the lively festivals like the San Sebastián Street Festival (though that's usually in January, my summer dream involves similar vibrant street life!), trying new dishes from street vendors, and dancing to salsa music under the stars. The energy during the summer months, with the longer days and warm evenings, must be absolutely electric! Beyond the bustling cityscape, I dream of exploring the diverse natural beauty that forms another incredible layer of Puerto Rico's background. From the lush, emerald canopy of the El Yunque rainforest, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, to the mesmerizing glow of the bioluminescent bays, it’s a place of breathtaking diversity and natural wonders. I can't wait to hike those trails and kayak under a starlit, glowing sea.
There’s a unique blend of Taino, Spanish, and African influences that creates a truly distinct Puerto Rican identity, and understanding and living within that cultural tapestry is my ultimate goal. It’s not just a vacation destination; it’s a place with a soul, a place that feels like it could be my soul's true home. The resilience and spirit of the Puerto Rican people are incredibly inspiring. I'm actively manifesting this dream, researching neighborhoods like Condado or Santurce, saving up diligently, and even trying to pick up a bit more Spanish. One day, I know I'll be sharing my own personal experiences and daily discoveries from my new home in San Juan, soaking in every single bit of that amazing Puerto Rican background. What an incredible journey that will be, and I can't wait to share it all with you!
