Growing what I love to eat 🥬

6/29 Edited to

... Read moreGrowing your own food, especially nutrient-dense greens like collards and kale, is a deeply rewarding experience. I started by choosing these vegetables because they are not only delicious but also packed with vitamins and minerals. One thing I've learned is that both collards and kale thrive in cooler weather, so planning their planting time around early spring or fall can yield the best harvest. In my garden, the key to success has been well-draining soil enriched with organic compost. Regular watering is essential, but be careful to avoid waterlogging the roots. I've also found that mulching helps retain moisture and keeps weeds at bay. Pest management is another important aspect; I use natural remedies like neem oil and companion planting to protect my greens without chemicals. Harvesting is gratifying—snipping the outer leaves allows the plants to keep growing, providing fresh produce for weeks. Cooking these greens fresh gives my meals a vibrant, flavorful boost that store-bought options can't match. Growing what I love to eat has not only improved my diet but also connected me to the food source in a meaningful way. For anyone looking to start, I recommend starting small and being patient with the learning process. Gardening is both a science and an art, and every gardener develops their own rhythm and techniques over time.

There’s something so powerful about slowing down and really looking at the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23). These aren’t just “good qualities” to try on when life is easy, this is the evidence of God actively working in us. Love that chooses others even when it’s inconvenient (John 15:12).
