A Mind Ran By OCD!!

6/17 Edited to

... Read moreLiving with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) often feels like a constant mental marathon, one that never truly ends. The poem captures this sensation beautifully, describing a mind that races nonstop with obsessive thoughts. From my own experience, OCD is not just about repetitive actions but also about invasive worries and irrational fears that hijack your reasoning. For example, the poem mentions fears related to daily tasks like eating food or driving — these are common triggers that can cause significant anxiety. What resonates strongly is the metaphor of the mind as a racetrack, where the person affected cannot stop the endless laps of worries and compulsions. This description aligns with how OCD veterans report their experience: a cascade of thoughts that spur more anxiety, creating a loop that seems impossible to break. The image of driving into a big body of water and drowning one's loved ones reflects the extreme dread and catastrophic thinking common in OCD. From managing my own or others' experiences with OCD, it's important to recognize that these thoughts feel overpowering but they are not reflective of reality. Therapy methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), specifically Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), can help break this endless mental race by teaching the brain to face fears without engaging in compulsions. The poem's raw and poetic approach helps raise awareness about the invisible hardship faced by those with OCD. Sharing personal artistic expressions can be a powerful way to connect with others and reduce stigma. If you or someone you know struggles similarly, seeking professional support and building understanding around OCD can make this relentless race feel a bit less lonely.

I genuinely have OCD
OCD isn’t “being neat” or “liking things a certain way.” It’s your brain getting stuck in a loop that says “what if… what if… what if…” until anxiety feels louder than logic. Intrusive thoughts show up uninvited. Compulsions try to quiet them. But relief is temporary, and the cycle learns itself
