Beemer ACCT-A-208734 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Beemer must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by MONDAY, DECEMBER 16TH at 10AM. Should Beemer’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Beemer arrived as a stray on December 10th after being found the day before. The finder said he pulled on leash, was jumpy with strangers, and was scared and aggressive. Upon arrival, he was very strong on the leash and reactive toward other dogs. These behaviors have continued, and the combination makes him difficult to handle. Beemer will need a strong handler who can control him when he is reactive. He is an energetic dog who is very friendly and allows all handling, but can be jumpy with people and snatchy with toys. He knows sit and paw, and will take treats gently, although he does have a short attention span and is easily distracted. Due to his behavioral concerns, Beemer is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or experienced adopter who can handle his strength on walks.
BEHAVIOR:
Per staff 12/12: Beemer stood at the front of kennel and was very wiggly and easy to leash. Once out of kennel he immediately began to jump up at other dogs fence fighting. In the room he was very friendly with us and energetic, much like yesterday. He ran around with his toys and was very bouncy in the room. He accepted trades easily and remained loose when the handler pet him all over while he had possession of a toy. He was displaying URI symptoms so medical came in to do a PCR for him while he was out. He did well for his PCR and did not display any concerns.

Stray, Very reactive when entering the shelter to other dogs
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
When approaching Beemer in kennel he was standing by the door and was very bouncy when he saw the handler and had soft eyes, wagging tail. He hopped down when the handler opened the door and allowed for her to easily leash him without any issue.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls heavily
Did fence fight with other dogs when exiting the kennels. Did not react until the other dogs started reacting to him first
HANDLING:
In the room Beemer was energetic. He paced around a bit exploring and then came over to us for attention. He allowed all handling without any issues and was tolerant but has no attention span and gets distracted easily. He was tolerant to full body pets, but most of the time his attention remained on his toys and playing by himself. He would take treats gently and showed knowledge of sit and paw! Whenever dogs would walk by outside the room he would get frustrated and scream at them.
PLAY:
Engages in play, aroused. Gets jumpy but tries to use toys!
TOYS:
Accepted trades, very toy motivated
Can be snatchy

Per staff 12/10: Very dog reactive per staff and will lunge, hard bark, and snarl at them while walking. Very strong as well.
MEDICAL:
On 12/12, Beemer was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. His PCR test is pending.
During his intact exam on 12/10, Beemer had red eyes and waxy ears, but his nose was clean. He had some yellow staining on his teeth and his skin was red on his belly. He was bright, alert, responsive, and friendly.
