Movies I thought no one else seen

The pagemaster was a bit scary for me when I was younger but I loved this movie. It’s why I started reading.

A troll in Central Park was also another favorite movie of mine. I haven’t watched either in forever.

Have you seen these?

... Read moreIt's funny how some movies just stick with you, even if you feel like you're the only one who remembers them! 'The Pagemaster' and 'A Troll in Central Park' definitely hit that nostalgic spot for me. 'The Pagemaster,' with Macaulay Culkin's character literally diving into the world of books, felt so magical. Who could forget the thrill of seeing him as a boy in glasses holding a sword, navigating through a library brought to life, encountering a fantastical green dragon, a swashbuckling pirate book, a mischievous ghost book, and a charming fairy book? And Christopher Lloyd as the Pagemaster himself? Pure genius! Then there’s 'A Troll in Central Park,' a gentler, whimsical tale. I always loved the vibrant animation of the friendly-looking troll and watching the children sliding down a magical path in his beautiful, hidden garden. These films just had a unique blend of adventure, heart, and imagination that's hard to find in today's movies. If you loved the unique charm and blend of animation and adventure in 'The Pagemaster,' you might be on the hunt for similar cinematic journeys that transport you to other fantastic worlds. Allow me to share some other overlooked gems that capture that same magical essence: 1. The NeverEnding Story (1984): This is probably the closest you’ll get to the fantastical feeling of 'The Pagemaster.' A young boy escapes into a magical book, and the line between his reality and the story blurs. It’s a timeless tale of imagination, courage, and the power of stories, much like how the Pagemaster encouraged a love for reading and adventure. The mix of real-world emotions and epic fantasy is truly captivating. 2. Inkheart (2008): If the idea of books literally coming to life captivated you in 'The Pagemaster,' then 'Inkheart' is a must-watch. It’s a live-action adventure where characters from books can be read into the real world, and real people can be read into books. It's a delightful fantasy that truly celebrates the magic within pages and explores the dangers and wonders of bringing fiction to life. 3. FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992): While visually distinct, 'FernGully' shares the environmental message and whimsical, small-scale fantasy elements seen in 'A Troll in Central Park.' It features tiny magical beings and an important lesson about protecting nature, delivered with beautiful animation and a heartwarming story. It has that gentle, enchanting vibe of discovering a hidden magical world. 4. Rock-A-Doodle (1991): From Don Bluth, the same creative mind behind 'A Troll in Central Park,' this film offers a similar blend of animation, music, and a somewhat quirky magical adventure. A young boy transforms into a cartoon cat to help a rooster bring the sun back. It has that unique Bluth animation style and a heartwarming quest, making it a perfect companion for fans of whimsical animated musicals. These movies, much like 'The Pagemaster' and 'A Troll in Central Park,' transport you to worlds where imagination reigns supreme. They might not be the blockbusters everyone talks about, but they hold a special place in the hearts of those who discovered them. What other forgotten animated or fantasy films from the 80s and 90s do you think deserve more love?
