Loc Hydration is Important 🍋✨🫶🌸
I colored my locs recently and have been deep in thought daily about my hydration. As expected their alot drier than prior to the coloring.
Here I boiled fresh rosemary leaves , mint leaves , and cloves for about 30 minutes. I let that cool and then I strained the mixture into my misting bottle. After I filled the bottle I added a generous amount of peppermint oil for a better smell and extra moisture.
Try it out and tell me what you think. Let’s get into it ⚡️

I totally get the struggle of keeping locs hydrated, especially after coloring! I've been on a mission to find the best natural solutions, and this homemade rosemary and clove water blend has been a lifesaver for my dry locs. But let me share a bit more about why these ingredients are so powerful and how you can get the most out of your DIY spray. First, let's talk about the magic behind rosemary. It's not just for cooking! Rosemary is renowned for stimulating blood circulation in the scalp, which can promote hair growth and strengthen follicles. For locs, this means a healthier foundation and less breakage. Cloves, on the other hand, are packed with antioxidants and have amazing antiseptic properties. They can help maintain a clean scalp environment, reduce itchiness, and add a beautiful shine to your locs. Plus, they smell fantastic! The mint leaves bring a refreshing, tingling sensation to the scalp, further boosting circulation and leaving your locs feeling invigorated. And that peppermint oil I mentioned? It's the cherry on top, providing an extra cooling effect, a lovely scent, and even more scalp stimulation. Together, these ingredients create a powerhouse blend for ultimate loc hydration and health. When I make my batch, I usually aim for about a cup of fresh rosemary and mint leaves, along with a tablespoon of whole cloves. Boiling them for at least 30 minutes ensures all those beneficial compounds are properly extracted into the water. After boiling, it's crucial to let the mixture cool completely before straining. I use a fine-mesh strainer or even a cheesecloth to make sure there are no tiny bits left that could clog my spray bottle or get stuck in my locs. Once strained, I add about 10-15 drops of high-quality peppermint essential oil to the cooled liquid. This not only enhances the smell but also provides additional benefits. Now, for usage: I spray my locs daily, or every other day, focusing on the roots and working my way down to the ends. It's especially great for refreshing them in the morning or after a workout. This 'loc toner' helps balance the pH of my scalp and locs, preventing dryness and buildup. I store my spray in a clear spray bottle (just like the one you see in the picture – so handy!) in the refrigerator, which keeps it fresh for about 1-2 weeks. Making smaller batches ensures you always have a potent, fresh mist ready to go. While some people use rosemary and clove water for their skin, this particular recipe is formulated with loc health in mind. Trust me, your locs will thank you for this natural, nourishing treat!
