One of the biggest struggles I’ve personally faced, and I’m sure many can relate, is the sheer volume of thoughts and ideas constantly buzzing. This mental clutter is exhausting and a huge contributor to burnout. That’s where the first tip really shines: offloading thoughts into an app or system. For me, it’s like having a mental ‘dumping ground’ where every fleeting idea, task, or worry goes. This doesn’t just clear my head; it allows me to then see everything objectively. From there, I can create clear tasks, assign realistic priorities, and build a daily plan that feels manageable instead of overwhelming. It’s not about doing more, but about creating space to actually do what matters, crucial for a CEO managing complex responsibilities. Another common hurdle is that familiar "wall of awful" – the intense resistance before starting a task. It's not laziness; it's a cognitive block. This is where the second tip comes in: overcoming resistance by rephrasing tasks, breaking them down, or changing your work environment. I've learned to rephrase daunting tasks like "write that lengthy report" into "open the report template" or "brainstorm three bullet points." It sounds simple, but it tricks my brain into starting.
