why you NEED a pet in college🐈‍⬛

i think some college students get a pet prematurely without the proper research or financial stability, which can strain the relationship u have with your animal. i think planning and preparing to be a pet parent is a responsibility and necessity when getting a pet. i found my kitty on a sunday night in downtown charleston, and although i was reluctant to bringing her home since i had never had a cat growing up, rescuing her was one of the best decisions i have ever made! she’s my bestest friend in the whole universe , and i love being her mama❤️❤️ i put her in the cutest outfits ever , she sleeps with me when im missing my boyfriend, she’s the kindest kitty in the world, and i love it when she purrsss. tiva’s belly is always full and she has more clothes than i do , miss tiva diva is soooo spoiled!!

... Read moreGetting a pet in college can be truly life-changing, as my own experience with my beloved Tiva shows. There’s a reason why you NEED a pet in college—the companionship, stress relief, and unconditional love they offer can be invaluable during such a busy and often overwhelming time. But while the thought of having a furry friend by your side is exciting, it's crucial to approach this decision with a clear understanding of the responsibilities involved. One of the first questions many students ask is, "Can you have a pet in college?" This largely depends on your living situation. If you're in dorms, the answer is often a resounding no, or only for small animals like fish. However, off-campus apartments are often more pet-friendly, though they usually come with additional pet deposits and monthly fees. Always check your lease agreement thoroughly! If you're asking "should I get a cat as a college student?" or "should I get a dog in college?", think about your space and schedule. Cats are generally more independent and can adapt better to smaller living spaces and busy student schedules than dogs, which require regular walks, training, and more dedicated attention. Then there's the financial aspect. Beyond the initial adoption fee, there are significant ongoing costs. I quickly learned that Tiva’s belly needed to be full, and she loved her toys and even outfits! You'll need to budget for food, litter, vet check-ups, vaccinations, and unexpected emergencies. It’s also wise to consider pet insurance. These expenses can add up, so financial stability, as mentioned in my initial post, is key to providing a happy and healthy life for your animal. Don't forget about supplies like carriers, beds, and grooming tools. For those considering "easy pets to take care of in college," options like fish, hamsters, or guinea pigs might seem appealing due to their smaller size and perceived lower maintenance. However, even these pets require consistent care, clean habitats, and proper nutrition. No pet is truly 'easy' if you want to be a responsible owner. The "benefits of having a pet in college" are immense—they offer emotional support, reduce stress, provide a sense of routine, and combat loneliness. My Tiva is my bestest friend, and her purrs can turn any bad day around! Finally, think about the long-term commitment. What happens during summer breaks or after graduation? Will you be able to take your pet with you? Having a plan for these transitions is vital. Rescuing an animal, as I did with Tiva, is incredibly rewarding, but it's a journey that requires careful planning, dedication, and a whole lot of love. If you do your research and prepare adequately, having a pet can genuinely enhance your college experience and provide a loving companion through it all.
