Starting over after such a profound loss is something I never imagined I'd be doing at 61. For a long time, the idea of 'widow dating' felt impossible, almost a betrayal. I've also reconnected with old friends and joined new social groups. One thing I've learned is that it’s less about actively 'looking' and more about being open to possibilities that arise in everyday life. For instance, I've always enjoyed being active, perhaps cheering on my favorite team, and sometimes engaging in these activities can naturally lead to meeting new people who share similar interests. The emotional side of dating after loss is complex. There’s a natural apprehension, a fear of being hurt again, or even a sense of guilt. I've had to remind myself that finding companionship doesn't diminish the love I had for my late wife; it simply means I have more love to give.
