Preparing for labor and delivery can be both exciting and a little overwhelming, especially when it comes to packing your hospital bag. After going through it myself, I've learned a few things about what truly makes a difference in those first few days. It's not just about having a list, but understanding why certain items are so important for both you and your new baby. First off, when should you start packing? I aimed to have mine ready by around 36 weeks, just in case baby decided to make an early appearance. It gives you peace of mind knowing everything is organized and ready to go when contractions start. For Your Little One: Baby Essentials Beyond the adorable 2X ONESIES and 2X GOING HOME FITS (because let's face it, spit-ups and diaper blowouts happen!), think about comfort. A soft SWADDLE is an absolute game-changer for helping your newborn feel secure and sleep better in their new environment. Don't forget a little HAT to keep their head warm, especially right after birth. I also packed a PACI + PACI CLIP just in case, along with a small RATTLE for those first moments of connection. The HATCH TO-GO sound machine was a lifesaver for creating a soothing atmosphere in our hospital room, helping both baby and me get some much-needed rest. For Post-Partum Comfort & Recovery Your recovery is just as important as baby's arrival. Trust me, the hospital will provide some essentials, but having your own makes a world of difference. The PERI BOTTLE is non-negotiable for hygiene and soothing after delivery. If you're planning to breastfeed, SILVERETTES were a godsend for protecting and healing sensitive nipples, and a good quality NIPPLE BUTTER will be your best friend. STAY DRY NURSING PADS are also a must to keep you comfortable and prevent leaks. Your Comfort is Key: Clothes & Self-Care Comfortable clothing is paramount. Think soft, loose-fitting items like a LOUNGE SET, a cozy COMFY SWEATER, and a soft TSHIRT. Layers are great as hospital room temperatures can fluctuate. A COMFY BRA and a dedicated NURSING BRA are essential. Don't forget plenty of soft SOCKS and a comfortable SWEATSHIRT. For personal hygiene, packing your own travel-sized FACE CLEANSER, FACE MOISTURIZER, DEODORANT, SHAMPOO + CONDITIONER, and TOOTHPASTE + TOOTHBRUSH can make you feel so much more human. A HAIR BRUSH and even a NAIL BUFFER for a quick tidy-up can boost your spirits. I also brought a HEATING PAD for after-birth cramps and a LARGE DARK COLORED TOWEL from home – it's just nicer than the hospital ones, and dark colors are practical for postpartum. Don't underestimate the power of your own SLIPPERS and a familiar blanket or pillow for extra comfort. Staying Connected & Entertained: Electronics & Snacks While you'll be focused on your baby, there can be downtime. A KINDLE can be great for a quiet moment. Crucially, bring extra-long CHARGER CORDS and a PORTABLE CHARGER for your phone – outlets can be scarce or far from your bed. A small SPEAKER for some calming music and a HANDHELD FAN can also be surprisingly welcome. And finally, SNACKS! Pack a variety of easy-to-eat, energy-boosting options – you'll be hungry at odd hours, and hospital food isn't always readily available or to your taste. A LINT ROLLER was also a small but mighty addition for keeping clothes tidy. Having some of your personal MEDICATIONS (as approved by your doctor) also makes sense.
