Books I read in June + bought

All the books I read and bought in June, mainly horror with some poetry, essays, and theology

Would say overall this month I enjoyed each book I read and it’s nice to read books that I choose to read instead of having to read a bunch of stuff for grad school, so I feel rejuvenated a little bit

... Read moreThis month’s reading journey was truly refreshing as I took a break from obligatory grad school materials to immerse myself in genres that invigorate my love for storytelling and deep thought. Horror novels like those by Kingfisher offered chilling supernatural mysteries and complex characters that kept me hooked, blending humor and scares in a way that felt fresh and engaging. It’s fascinating how gothic themes weave into the young adult novel The Resurrectionist, with its echoes of Frankenstein and explorations of family secrets, making it an enjoyable, if not typical, YA read. Poetry collections such as The Book of Nightmares and Rebecca Dunham’s The Flight Cage presented haunting and powerful imagery that lingered long after reading. I particularly appreciated the combination of dark themes and emotional rawness, which poetry delivers uniquely. Essays on ambition by Donald Hall inspired me with their reflection on the purpose and passion behind writing, stirring my own creative motivations. Diving into theology with Leslie D. Weatherhead's The Christian Agnostic added a comforting layer to my literary experience, connecting intellectual curiosity with personal reflection. It’s rewarding to find books that resonate with thoughts I've long harbored but hadn’t fully articulated, bringing solace alongside intellectual challenge. Overall, this eclectic mix affirmed the joy of choosing my own reading path. It reminded me how diverse genres—from gothic horror and queer narratives to contemplative poetry and theology—can beautifully intersect to enrich one’s worldview. For fellow book lovers looking to broaden their horizons, I highly recommend exploring a similar blend to find unexpected gems that speak to both mind and heart.
