On my Day 4, I felt really ready to dive into making bread after nurturing my sourdough starter carefully. The best part about sourdough is how it connects you to a tradition that spans cultures and continents. In my experience, maintaining a healthy sourdough starter requires patience and consistent care. Feeding it daily, keeping it at a warm but not hot temperature, and watching for bubbly activity signals that it's alive and thriving. These signs gave me the confidence to finally start baking. The first loaf might not come out perfect, but that’s part of the learning curve. Each step, from mixing the flour and water to kneading and shaping the dough, taught me something valuable. I also found that embracing the unique moments, like waiting for the dough to rise or baking it in the oven, made the process very rewarding. Being a Thai person in Canada adds another layer to this experience, as I often incorporate my cultural flavors or share these moments with friends who are also exploring sourdough baking. It really feels like sourdough bridges my heritage and my life here in Canada. If you’re starting sourdough yourself, don’t be discouraged by setbacks. Enjoy the journey and the delicious results that follow!
