Cry it out Or No

I keep seeing people say letting babies cry it out is the only way they learn to sleep… but how do you just sit there and listen to your baby cry for you?

Especially with a younger baby, it feels so wrong to ignore them—but I also don’t know if constantly picking them up is making it harder in the long run.

Is there a middle ground? Do babies actually learn from crying it out, or do they just give up?

If you’ve been through this:

• Did you do cry it out or no?

• At what age did you start (if you did)?

• Did it help… or did you regret it?

I really need honest opinions and experiences right now 🤍

... Read moreFrom my own experience navigating the cry it out method, I understand how emotionally challenging it can be to hear your baby cry and feel uncertain about how to respond. Many parents struggle with the dilemma of whether to let their baby cry to self-soothe or to comfort them immediately. What I found helpful was researching the balance between these approaches, often referred to as the 'controlled crying' or 'gradual extinction' method. This approach involves briefly allowing the baby to cry before offering reassurance, gradually increasing the waiting time. I started implementing this method around 4 months when my baby was ready for more structured sleep. Over time, the crying periods shortened, and my baby learned to self-soothe with less distress. It wasn’t about ignoring but teaching patience and independence gently. Another tip that worked well was establishing a consistent bedtime routine — calming baths, soft music, and quiet stories before sleep cues helped my baby feel secure. It is important to remember every baby is different; some respond well to cry it out strategies, while others may need more comforting. Listening to your intuition and adapting methods to your child’s temperament can make a significant difference. Ultimately, the goal is peaceful nights and healthy sleep habits without causing undue stress to you or your baby. Sharing experiences with other parents and trusted caregivers can also provide support and reassurance. There is no one-size-fits-all answer—finding what works best for your family is key.

Cry it out or no?
To me, it’s a strong no. I’ve never believed in the CIO method. At most, when they get to about three, I give them a few minute to decide if they want my comfort/conversation. But in general, I don’t believe they should be crying themselves to sleep. Nor do I believe that just because they did

A basket of red onions, whole yellow onions, a halved red onion, and a knife on a cutting board, illustrating how Italians cut onions and its impact on flavor.
Roasted whole onions with their skins on, described as 'Sweet & Slow,' best for broths, stews, and stock bases, retaining moisture and natural sweetness.
Halved, caramelized onions, labeled 'Mild & Caramelizable,' ideal for roasting, grilling, and stews, holding structure and deepening flavor.
Italians don’t cry over onions. They cut smarter.
Think an onion is just an onion? Not in Italian cooking and definitely not if you want flavor, texture, and tears that are worth it. In Italy, the way you slice an onion can change your entire dish — from a delicate soffritto to a rich caramelized base. Cut it wrong and your risotto gets bitter

Crying isn't a sign of weakness—it's a powerful brain detox! 💧 Releasing emotional tears helps lower manganese levels, a mineral that can cause fatigue and stress when over-accumulated. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting calm and a clearer mind. Let it out! 🧠💖 #Cry
