only greenery in nyc

2024/5/8 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I first started exploring NYC, I honestly expected a concrete jungle, all skyscrapers and bustling street scenes. My camera roll was ready for iconic yellow cabs and grand architecture, but what truly surprised me was discovering these pockets of vibrant green-leafed trees that transform the urban landscape into something truly special. Union Square, for instance, became one of my favorite spots. You see those large grey buildings towering around, and then suddenly, there's this incredible burst of nature right in the middle! It’s such a refreshing contrast. I spent ages just capturing the way the sun filters through the leaves, or watching people walk by, enjoying a moment of calm. It's a perfect spot to just sit and observe the city life while being surrounded by nature. If you're like me and looking to fill your camera roll with more than just cityscapes, NYC has so many unexpected green havens. Beyond the famous Central Park, which is a must-see, places like Washington Square Park offer a similar vibe to Union Square – a bustling hub framed by beautiful trees and historic buildings. I love watching the diverse crowd there, from street performers to students, all under the canopy of mature trees. Madison Square Park is another gem, especially during spring and summer when everything is in full bloom. It's smaller, more intimate, and often has public art installations that make for fantastic photo opportunities nestled amongst the foliage. Even just wandering through residential streets in neighborhoods like Greenwich Village or the Upper West Side, you'll find blocks lined with magnificent trees, creating natural tunnels of green. These are often less crowded and offer a more serene 'New York scenery' experience for your photos. Don't be afraid to veer off the main avenues! My tip for getting those perfect 'camera roll' shots of NYC greenery? Go during the golden hour, either early morning or late afternoon. The light is magical, making those vibrant green-leafed trees glow. Also, look for interesting compositions – maybe frame a tree against a unique building, or capture a cyclist riding past, adding a dynamic human element to your urban nature shots. It’s all about finding that perfect moment where the city's energy meets its unexpected natural beauty. Happy exploring and snapping!
