#WhoBeliveInInternationalLaw?
International law serves as the backbone for peaceful coexistence among nations, setting guidelines that govern state behavior. However, as pointed out, adherence to these laws varies significantly, with almost all countries showing respect for these norms except a few notable exceptions like the United States and Israel. This divergence raises critical questions about global governance and stability. From my own observations of geopolitical events, the actions of the United States, particularly under recent administrations, have sometimes appeared to sidestep international legal frameworks, especially in cases involving military interventions and political influence over other nations' sovereignty. The documented militarization of regions such as the Americas and aspirations for dominance in the Middle East reflect a broader strategy that challenges international law’s impartiality. The claim that the U.S. demands unconditional surrender from Iran and attempts to influence leadership in other countries like Cuba suggests a unilateral approach to diplomacy and conflict resolution. Such actions increase tensions and risk triggering wider conflict, possibly even large-scale wars. These are not isolated incidents but part of a pattern that contradicts global expectations of sovereign respect and legal standards. Living through these times, it becomes clear that international law’s effectiveness depends largely on mutual respect and enforcement. When powerful states act outside these norms, the international system faces instability, and smaller nations suffer the consequences. This uneven application undermines collective efforts towards peace and security. In conclusion, recognizing who and why some nations diverge from internationally accepted laws is crucial. It invites global citizens and leaders alike to advocate for stronger mechanisms to hold all countries accountable, thus preventing the dangerous escalation of conflicts and preserving the rule of law worldwide.
