Before And After Color🪡

Hey fellow artists and Animal Crossing fans! Seeing my Stitches drawing transform from a simple 'BEFORE COLOR' sketch to a vibrant 'AFTER COLOR' masterpiece is seriously one of the most rewarding feelings. I know a lot of you are probably curious about adding color to your own drawings, whether you're working on 'dti coloring pages' or just practicing 'art drawings with color'. I wanted to share a bit more about my process and some tips I've picked up along the way that might help you too, especially if you love showing off your 'before and after' artistic journeys! The magic truly begins with a solid foundation. For my Stitches piece, the 'BEFORE COLOR' stage was crucial. I spent a good amount of time with my Pentel Graphgear 1000 pencil, ensuring every detail of Stitches' charming, patchwork design was just right. Don't rush this part! A strong line art base makes all the difference when you eventually layer on the color. It’s like mapping out your adventure before you start the journey. This initial sketch is where you define the character, their pose, and all the little quirks that make them recognizable, like our beloved Stitches from Animal Crossing. Once my line art was perfect, it was time for the transformation – bringing him to life with color! For this, I reached for my trusty Prisma Color and Arteza Colored Pencils. I used them on a Mixed Media Sketch Book, which is fantastic because it’s sturdy enough to handle multiple layers without pilling or tearing. My go-to tip for 'art drawings with color' is to always start with light pressure and build up your colors gradually. This technique allows for much smoother blending and gives you more control, making it easier to correct any little oopsies along the way. Think about where your light source is coming from and add subtle shading; even on a cute character like Stitches, a bit of shadow can add incredible depth and dimension, making him pop right off the page. Blending is an art in itself when it comes to colored pencils. I often use a colorless blender or even a very light-colored pencil to seamlessly merge different hues. For Stitches' unique fur, I layered various shades of orange, brown, and a hint of yellow to achieve that cozy, stitched-together look. Don't be afraid to experiment! If you're tackling something like 'dti coloring pages,' try to think beyond just filling in the lines. How can you make that character truly shine? What feelings do you want your colors to evoke? Choosing the right tools really does make a difference in your 'after color' results. Arteza pencils offer a great balance of quality and value, with a slightly firmer lead that’s excellent for initial layering and fine details. A good Mixed Media Sketch Book prevents bleed-through and allows for the robust layering that truly makes colors sing. Remember, every artist's journey is a series of 'before' and 'after' moments. Don't get discouraged if your initial attempts don't match your vision perfectly. The real joy is in the learning process, seeing your skills improve with each stroke.
