My 10 Year Hair Journey ✨

a lot can be said about my complete hair journey but we’re gonna keep it within the last decade lol

i had my first baby in 2015! since then i’ve gone through a lot of changes and my hair went on that journey with me. they say when i woman changes her hair, she’s preparing for a big change in her life…..that is to be an understatement here 😆

the timeline goes a little like this:

post babies - i embraced the natural state of my hair. it was long and healthy after all those hormones and supplements and i just fell in love with the way my natural hair looked.

2018 a dramatic split from my kids dad sent me searching for a new identity, a whole new look so i dyed my hair blonde. not the best choice for my hair health wise looking back lol but boy did i have fun as a blonde 😏💃🏽🤣

2019 was about release. i felt like i was holding onto everything, my damaged hair included and i honestly felt like burning something down to the ground, but instead i cut off all my hair 🙃

2020 was the regrowth season. i pretty much kept my hair braided all the time so that i could look and feel cute during the awkward hair growing back phase.

2021 was the most traumatic point in my life. the passing of my kids dad sent me into a complete spiral. in order to combat that i dove deep into my soul and spirit. from that came my loc’d journey. it was somewhat of an expression you could say. my hair reflected me rebuilding myself stronger than ever. i combed them out in 2023.

now, you could say i am back in a healing era but in a much healthier way. i’m 13 months postpartum and single again 🥲 but i’m also practicing being intentional and giving myself grace. showing up in ways that are authentic to me but still firm in my boundaries. i’m loving myself and my kids. i’m paying attention to how im experienced by others. i’m giving love without giving up myself in the process. can’t wait to see what’s next 👀 #hairisaprivilege

... Read moreReflecting on a decade-long hair journey, I realize how deeply our hairstyles intertwine with our personal stories and emotional phases. Much like the author's experience of transitioning from natural curls post-pregnancy to experimenting with blonde hair in turbulent times, many of us find hair to be both a canvas for self-expression and a mirror of inner change. Embracing natural hair after pregnancy can feel empowering, as hormones and self-care often bring about healthier, more resilient hair. However, major life events—like breakups or losses—may lead us to seek new identities through bold hair choices. The author's blonde era, despite being tough on her hair's health, highlights the joy and fun in reinventing oneself. Cutting hair short during moments of release or stress is a common symbolic act of letting go. Protective styles such as braids during regrowth phases not only help maintain hair health but also offer style versatility and confidence during challenging transitions. Starting locs can be a profound expression of rebuilding and spiritual growth, reflecting strength and resilience gained in difficult periods. Combing them out after years can signify readiness for new chapters and healing stages. For anyone on their own hair journey, intentional care and self-love are crucial—especially when balancing motherhood, healing, and personal boundaries. Recognizing that hair is more than appearance—it's a reflection of our inner world—can transform hair care into an act of mindfulness and empowerment. If you're navigating similar changes, know that each phase of your hair tells a unique story of growth. Embrace it with grace and authenticity, and remember that your hair journey is deeply personal, evolving alongside your life experiences. #hairisaprivilege
