The phrase 'PUMP&POUR' isn't just a catchy term; it's become my daily ritual, allowing me to provide for my baby even when we're apart. It's truly empowering to know I'm building a stash of liquid gold, one session at a time, for my little love. For those wondering, 'pump and pour' simply describes the process of pumping breast milk and then pouring it into storage bags or bottles. It's a straightforward but incredibly vital part of many breastfeeding journeys, especially for working moms or those looking to build a freezer stash. I know when I first started, I had so many questions about how to pump breast milk effectively, what equipment to use, and how to fit it all into my day. That's why I'm here to share some of my go-to pump tips that have made all the difference. Essential Pumping Tips for New Moms Getting started can feel overwhelming, but a few simple tips can make your pumping journey much smoother. First, ensure you have the right flange size for your pump. This is crucial for comfort and efficient milk expression. Many new mamas overlook this, but it can significantly impact your output. I also found that consistency is key. Try to pump around the times your baby would typically feed, or every 2-3 hours if you're away from them. Hydration and nutrition are vital – remember, you're still nourishing two! Drink plenty of water and eat regular, healthy meals. Making Pumping at Work Work for You Pumping at work brings its own set of challenges, but it's absolutely achievable! My Momcozy M5s have been a game-changer for their portability and discretion. This mimics cluster feeding and can signal your body to produce more milk. Try pumping for 20 minutes, resting for 10, pumping for 10, resting for 10, and pumping for a final 10 minutes, usually once a day. Also, ensure your pump parts are in good condition; worn-out parts can reduce suction. Don't compare your output to others – every mama's body is different. Focus on what works for you and your baby.
