Nope not liking this

So this was/is our evening 😬🫣 have I mentioned before that I’m not a big fan of storms when we start getting weather warnings … anxiety & this shit don’t mix well, I normally do not leave the house during times like these but have to work right … & that lightning ⚡️ yea just a bit too close for comfort!

... Read moreLiving through severe thunderstorm warnings can be truly unsettling, especially when you have anxiety that heightens your sensitivity to loud noises and flashing lightning. When Environment Canada issues an orange-level severe thunderstorm warning, like the one for areas near Didsbury and Airdrie, it means the storms are expected to bring damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain. These conditions demand immediate attention to safety and personal well-being. From my own experience, the unpredictable nature of storms makes planning ahead really important. I always make sure my emergency kit is ready—with essentials like flashlights, extra batteries, water, and a first-aid kit. Having a safe, enclosed place to retreat to during intense lightning or hail is crucial, as even short exposure can be dangerous. Facing a fear of storms can be tough, especially when work commitments require you to be outside or on the road. One strategy that's helped me manage storm anxiety is to monitor live weather updates closely through apps and Environment Canada's alerts. Knowing the storm’s path and estimated time helps prepare mentally and physically. Also, sharing your concerns with friends or family can provide emotional support during tense moments. For those who, like the author, typically avoid going out during storm warnings but can't due to work, consider ways to limit exposure by finding sheltered routes or waiting in safe indoor locations if possible until severe weather passes. Remember, protecting yourself from flying debris and large hail is important—wear protective outerwear and carry an umbrella for smaller hail, but seek shelter immediately during severe conditions. Storm photography and video can help capture the experience but ensure your safety comes first—never put yourself at risk to get the perfect shot. Those moments where lightning feels 'just a bit too close for comfort' highlight how important it is to prioritize caution. Living in Alberta, where summer storms can be intense and sudden, I've learned that preparation, awareness, and self-care go hand-in-hand. If anxiety around storms is overwhelming, grounding techniques like deep breathing, listening to calming music, or focusing on something positive after the storm passes can also help ease the tension. Managing both the physical dangers and emotional impact of severe weather ensures you stay as safe and comfortable as possible during unpredictable stormy evenings.

I’ve survived the kind of pain that changes people. I’ve buried people I loved. I’ve fought addiction. I’ve battled my own mind. I’ve sat in doctor’s offices hearing things I didn’t want to hear. I’ve carried grief so heavy it felt like a second skeleton. I’ve been broke, broken,
