Incomplete Map of The Verdant Maw

The Verdant Maw

A jungle older than memory.

Here the roots grow through forgotten kingdoms, rivers carve paths through ruined temples, and Embercrown smolders above it all like a wound that never healed.

This is the currently known map of the Verdant Maw. Its borders are not fixed, and new regions, landmarks, and mysteries will be added as the Archive uncovers them.

The Glass Basin reflects things that no longer exist. The Orchid Graves bloom from the dead. Beneath Orovaya, a shamanic matriarchy, entire civilizations sleep beneath the roots.

This is only one region of AshenReach.

The map grows with every discovery recorded by the Archive.

Ashenborne Archive is a soulslike dark fantasy anthology project featuring visual lore, Audio Codex episodes, and a physical trading card game.

... Read moreAs someone deeply fascinated by dark fantasy and worldbuilding, I find the concept of the Verdant Maw truly captivating. This ancient jungle, with its roots entwined through forgotten kingdoms and rivers carving paths through ruined temples, creates a vivid atmosphere that draws you into a living, breathing world. The imagery of Embercrown smouldering like an unhealed wound above the landscape resonates with the melancholic beauty often found in soulslike settings. One of the most intriguing parts for me is the fluidity of the map’s borders—as new discoveries by the Ashenborne Archive continually expand the known world, it mirrors the experience of exploration in many games where the world feels alive and ever-changing. The mention of unique locations like The Glass Basin, which reflects what no longer exists, and the Orchid Graves blooming from the dead adds layers of mystery and supernatural elements that make the setting rich and multi-dimensional. I’ve particularly enjoyed following projects that combine multiple media forms to enrich lore, and Ashenborne Archive’s approach—incorporating visual lore, Audio Codex podcasts, and even a physical trading card game—offers a multi-sensory immersion experience. It’s fascinating to imagine delving into the stories of the shamanic matriarchy beneath Orovaya, or uncovering the secrets hidden among Titan Graves and the Canopy Resin Jungle. For creative storytellers and gamers alike, maps like The Verdant Maw serve not only as navigational guides but as inspirational canvases. They invite us to craft our own narratives or strategize discoveries, all while engaging with a richly textured world that feels both ancient and alive. If you’re a fan of dark fantasy or soulslike genres, keeping up with the ongoing expansions to this map and lore through Ashenborne Archive’s podcasts and games is a rewarding way to deepen your connection to this hauntingly beautiful universe.
