The Power of Self-Discernment: Seeing Yourself….

You ever ask God for discernment so you can spot snakes in your circle, but forget to ask Him for discernment to spot the flaws in yourself? Sometimes the person you need clarity about is staring right back at you in the mirror.

Let’s talk about it…

We pray for God to expose the fake friends, the toxic relationships, the wrong environments—but how often do we ask Him to expose us? Our thoughts, our habits, our motives. Because the truth is, discernment isn’t just spiritual radar for others; it’s a mirror for self-awareness.

Romans 12:2 reminds us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Renewal doesn’t happen without reflection. You can’t renew what you refuse to review. When our minds are renewed, we start to see ourselves through the lens of truth, not through filters of ego or pride.

Philippians 1:9-10 adds, “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best…” Paul is saying love isn’t blind; it’s insightful. Love with discernment helps you recognize when your heart, your attitude, or your actions are drifting from God’s standard.

And 1 Corinthians 2:14 tells us, “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness.” Discernment is spiritual intelligence. It’s not just about sensing danger; it’s about understanding divine direction. Without the Spirit, we operate on impulse. With the Spirit, we operate in alignment.

Discernment is deeper than “I can feel their energy.” It’s “God, help me see myself clearly so I can love others rightly.” When you allow God to refine your insight, you stop walking blindly through life and start walking wisely through it.

Ask God this week, “Show me me.” Because when you can discern yourself, you can better discern His will.
